Does the latest version of Plex still have iTunes playlists importing feature/function? I’ve worked very hard to fine-tune my playlists that I was finally able to import from iTunes and I want to make sure that the latest version of Plex still supports iTunes playlist importing. I’m on 4.67.1 using a browser and 4.51.3 with a NAS/Plex. I’m most interested in being able to edit playlist poster images which the newer version(s)? are able to do.
I purchased the Plex Pass because Plex advertises that it can import itunes playlists and ratings. I have tried everything that Plex recommends to try to achieve this and nothing I try gets Plex to import my old itunes playlists and ratings. This is a deal-breaker for me as far as using Plex goes. The fact that this discussion item hasn’t been responded to since Oct tells me this is not getting any real support. Shame on Plex for its false advertising.
Although frustrated I tried a few more options out to try to get Plex to import my itunes ratings and playlists. While doing so, I didn’t see this before (not sure if it was absent or I just missed it), but the “playlists” selection/screen does offer an “import from itunes…” option. I tried this and then Plex was able to bring in my playlists and ratings too. So Plex has the capability, it just doesn’t work for some of the options, like when first adding a new itunes library. The Plex developers need to fix this as it is VERY frustrating and can lead someone to thinking this capability does not work.
I had an older version of PLEX that allowed the Import for iTunes feature. I can’t find it in the version downloaded yesterday (12/22/21). Please tell me where to find the import iTunes playlist feature. Thank you.
There are a few steps I learned to make this seamless.
The music library in your plex needs to be the same library for itunes.
The XML file for later versions of iTunes needs to be remade. You will have to go into the itunes database folder, delete the old one, and allow iTunes to make a new one.
I have a thorough document that I have put together on how to import playlists from iTunes into Plex. There are specific steps that need to be taken. I am off at the moment but will get to it ASAP. Like you, I struggled mightily to achieve this. Look for this document soon. It should allow you to get what you need. In the meantime, can you tell me where your iTunes library resides currently? Do you use a NAS or is your music on your desktop computer?
I’m updating the document a touch so I can make it specific to you, but would like to know where your music is located. Can you send me the location of a song for an example? Go to a song, then Get Info, and indicate where the song is located. Is all your music in one folder, or in a variety of folders? Is it in your iTunes/Music folder on your C: drive, or is it located elsewhere, such as a different internal hard-drive for example? Thanks.
I have finished modifying the document I created for importing iTunes playlists when working with a NAS to be applicable to a desktop setting. Please review the attached. I hope you’ll find success. Please proceed at your own peril. I make no claims to this being bullet-proof and that it will work for you. I’d like to hear your feedback after reviewing and even executing the steps contained in this document (and whether it worked for you). Please note that an earlier comment suggested that the XML file needed to be remade. I am not sure if the “later versions of iTunes” meant older versions, or newer versions. Older versions (i.e. version 10.7) make their own XML file whereas the latest versions of iTunes don’t. My document covers what to do to get the XML file. I would strongly advise NOT to do that - at least not until you make a copy of the XML and save it somewhere to add back if something happens. (Also copy and archive your .ITL file as well). If you can provide your email I will send you the document. I am unable to upload it here within Plex forum (at least not that I can see). I could share a dropbox link perhaps.
Sorry for the delay. It took a lot more work to modify it from a NAS-specific instructional document to a windows desktop environment.
Let me know. Thanks!
