iTunes playlist import

I’ve been trying for days now to have my playlists in iTunes transferred to Plex without success.
I’ve been through almost all the relevant posts.
Got nothing.

Has anyone has any success with this recently?

For the sake of time, here are some things I’ve tested, and I’m now aware of

  • iTunes plugin is enabled.
  • iTunes library XML path is set as the full path (Drive:\Folder\File.XML)
  • iTunes has sharing enabled.
  • iTunes has a simple (Non smart) playlist.
  • 3rd party services like Soundizz are failing as well. Something about the platform getting disconnected .

Thank you.

Server Version#: 1.21.0.3616-d87012962
Player Version#:

Oh wow.
Ok. One more thing, if you don’t mind.
3rd party services, like Soundiiz, are failing as well, but this one says the platform is disconnected (Even though the authentication worked, remote enabled, port forwarding done right, etc.). Is that the same thing, or can something be done in that area?

I may have had “verbose” enabled as part of my troubleshooting to try and see if I can catch an error.
Can you point me to which file of the logs is the relevant one?

I thought so. Which is why I’ve closed Plex server, deleted all the logs, started Plex server, and started adding a new library.
As soon as that’s done, I can send you the new logs.

As for the folder structures

iTunes is installed on C:\drive, but I have my library at E:\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media (Part of my troubleshooting involved reverting the library back to the default path at C:\Users\Mostafa\Music\iTunes

I have iTunes set up to “organize” music files (To comply with Plex folder structures) and copy the music files to the library folder, they set at E:\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music"Artist name"“Album name”

The iTunes Library.xml is at E:\Music\iTunes , as in E:\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.xml

When starting to add a new music library, I’ve tried folders as
E:\Music\iTunes
E:\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
E:\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music

I also tried the following paths to the iTunes Library.xml file in the settings
E:\Music\iTunes
E:\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.xml
folder://localhost//E:/Music/iTunes/iTunes%20Library.xml

What is the rule for the playlist? Keep in mind that the import only works if the same rules can be set in Plex. i.e. A rule based on the genre for a track will fail since PMS does not have genre at the track level.

They do (Attached). It’s also maybe worth mention I don’t have any NAS involved (All on my Windows PC).

I didn’t get what you said about importing working in a scenario and failing in another. But what’s interesting is that I don’t get that “Import from iTunes” prompt you screenshot here. The only thing relevant to iTunes in adding a library is the checkbox under “Advanced” is what I’m attaching. I don’t have the text starting from “Depending on”, and I don’t have the checkbox to overwrite. (That’s new)
I’ve also attached the fresh log files.

I saw that in the forums. But I don’t have it. I only have the “Unpin” selection.
And normally, I don’t even get the “Playlists” tab. The only way I can get it is when I “manually” create a playlist myself.

Hi. Sorry. In that context, some rules might apply, some might not. But I thought Plex doesn’t even import Smart Playlists to begin with? As in, it only imports (Normal?) playlists?

What causes this “library selector” to appear or not?

I guess your ¯_(ツ)_/¯ was to me wondering why I don’t get the “Import” from iTunes from the Playlist (Library?) and the ellipses.
Let me try another time after removing all Smart playlists from my iTunes.

Not sure how to modify the XML file. So, I just deleted it and iTunes seems to have constructed a new one on its own (I verified the non of the Smart Playlists appear in it).

Questions:
1- Do I need to have iTunes opened while I’m adding the library to Plex?
2- What about 3rd party alternatives like this Soundiiz? Any idea why they get disconnected?
3- What version of Plex Media Server are you running? And if we’re on different versions, can you upgrade and try? Or is there an option for me to get an (older?) version?

Ok. I’m about to give up in here.
Any chance this gets checked by a support team or something?

I’ve started from scratch. I reset iTunes music library, put it in the default path, added only 2 songs to it and 1 playlist (Non-smart) and made sure the XML PLEX path is updated and still got nothing.

How difficult can it be? :frowning:

Gonna need to see your PMS logs after this new attempt.

There you go

I’m sorry. I meant someone from a technical/development team or something.
Not sure if that someone would be like you, or like @anon18523487

What folder does your music library point to? I’m not positive, but I think it needs to point to the same location as iTunes.

Your XML shows:

file://localhost/C:/Users/[name removed]/Music/iTunes/iTunes%20Media/

Your PMS log shows your music folder is:

Nov 30, 2020 23:23:27.229 [17660] DEBUG - * Scanning C:\Users[name removed]\Music

I wasn’t aware of Soundiiz. I’ve used SongShift before but it doesn’t support Plex. I was able to log in to Soundiiz just fine and it stayed connected.

I just used it to transfer a couple Playlists from both Apple Music and Spotify to Plex. It was really picky about matching nearly-identical tracks, but the process worked well.

I have actually tried 4 combinations of folders, just in case. None worked.
C:\Users[name removed]\Music
C:\Users[name removed]\Music\iTunes
C:\Users[name removed]\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
C:\Users[name removed]\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music

It’s also worth mentioning, that I’ve just tried on an entirely separate machine, still unable to import playlists from iTunes.

Questions:
1- What do you think?
2- I’ve gone through a lot of the logs, I don’t see ANY reference to any action related to iTunes, iTunes library, or iTunes libray XML file. Can you tell me where would that be from the logs? Your logs if possible?

Hello? @anon18523487 @trumpy81 @Volts

I am referring to the location of your Plex music library, not the XML file. Just checking you are also referring to the same thing.
