Hi I need some information on this please.
Refer to this thred: Dolby atmos support
I have a normal HD TV, with no eARC or ARC support.
I have a Denon AVR-X2600H.
Will I be able to play Atmos if I get myself a Nvidia Shield or should the TV also have eARC?
If you connect it like Shield -> Denon -> TV than eARC is not needed. In this setup atoms will work.

Excellent, thank you, now to find a Shield on South Africa.
OK another question.
I have PMS on Windows PC.
Do I need to change the PMS to the shield?
or
Do I install the player on the shield and use the network to access the media?
This. ^^^
Go with the Shield Pro, not the “Tube” version. The tube has less RAM and issues with high-bitrate files.

Apparently they are fairly scarce everywhere lately.
Don’t be tempted by buying an older model. The remote is a bad joke compared with the newer models.
Typical of South Africa bud. We are usually last in line.
Look out for the triangular shaped remote.
On the old models this is a simple, flat 4-button affair.
Well that sucks, so I need to buy a very expensive TV just for eARC.
Don’t rely on eARC. Chances are, that you won’t get hires audio through the Plex app which runs directly on the TV. Many TV manufacturers don’t allow this, since this also requires a license from DTS.
What if I use a PS4 pro in the place of Shield?
AFAIK the PlayStation cannot passthrough anything.
The order has to be
Shield > AVR/surround decoder > TV
or you won’t get more than the most basic surround formats.
This connection order avoids ARC, and that’s a good thing!
Oh ok so the PS is applying it’s own compression in the background?
You haven’t shown audio.
True true, it’s playing E-AC3, If I select the True-HD track it plays with heavy audio stutter. I’m waiting for my Denon to be delivered…
So visually wise, there should be no compression/detail loss from the PS4’s side?
Visually should be ok, it can do 4k, hdr and obviously also knows H265.
Hi guys, I have to come back and provide more info/ask questions
I have a movie with 7.1 E-AC3. It plays fine and PLEX shows both video and audio direct stream whilst playing.
My Denon is configured in 5.1 and connected to the TV. The PS4 Pro is connected to the Denon.
The PS is configured to output Dolby direct on the audio settings.
When I play the movie there is no audio, is this because of the my 5.1 setup?
It will play 5.1 E-AC3 no problem
Can no one try and assist me. I really wish I knew what was going on with my setup.
I have PS4 Pro - Denon - Samsung Q60R which means I’m bypassing ARC if I am correct?
I would really like to use 7.1 DD+
