Nvidia Shield

Hi,

I need some information please. I’m waiting for my NVIDIA Shield Pro.

Currently, my PMS runs on a Windows PC with all the media on internal drives. Will the Shield work as a player and still pass Atmos or must PMS run on the Shield?

Windows PMS - LAN - Shield - Denon - Samsung TV.

Thanks.

The client and server are separate from each other.

You can run PMS on any supported system.

As long as the Denon supports Atmos, the Plex client on the Shield will pass it to the receiver, irrespective of where PMS is running.

My setup:
Shield Pro 2015 — Denon AVR-X4300H — LG B7 OLED
PMS on Synology DS918+

Thanks, and I don’t have to use the ARC ports?

I don’t have E-ARC. I believe by connecting it like your set up we bypass ARC?

ARC/eARC is only for audio from the TV to the receiver.

It is not used when the Shield is connected directly to the Denon.

It will be used for any audio from the Samsung to the Denon. Example: If you use the Netflix app on the Samsung and pass the audio to the Denon, it will go over HDMI-ARC.

Your setup and use case is similar to mine. Shield 2019 running to my Atmos capable AVR. Plays flawlessly. Good that you got the Pro. The regular “tube” version has a lot of issues with Plex and UHD content.
