Dolby Digital (AC-3) No Longer Supported by Default in Windows 11 Version 24H2

As of Windows 11 version 24H2, Microsoft no longer includes support for Dolby Digital (AC-3) by default. This means that a fresh installation of Windows 11 24H2 or later will not support Dolby Digital audio. However, users who upgrade from a prior version of Windows will not be affected.

While it is possible to install the required codecs manually, the process is not straightforward, as Dolby does not provide an official installer.

Plex for Windows does not currently acknowledge this issue, and as a result, affected content will play without sound instead of displaying an error message or fallback audio. Many other applications are unaffected, as they include built-in support for the necessary codecs rather than relying on the operating system.
