Dolby Vision HDR10+ transcoding?

Hello Everyone,
I want to buy a new TV and at this point I’m really annoyed about all the different incompatible HDR standard’s.
I personally like the idea of HDR10+ that it’s kind of open source, but at the time of writing theres much more Dolby Vision content.

Most of the discussions on the internet are about compatibility of the HDR standard’s when you directly play the movie of your Blu-ray. But is there any difference when you have the unencrypted video file, or is it possible to transcode Dolby Vision content to HDR10+ or the other way around.
I don’t want to lose the active HDR part, so I don’t want to play Dolby Vision/HDR10+ content in HDR10

Thanks for your help
Danil

As of now? No. Not that I have been able to find yet. Pretty much stuck with playing straight HDR10 content. I’ve found stripping the second video track (the one with the Dolby Vision/HDR10+ information) is the easiest way for compatibility. Everything plays it direct with ease, and no need to fuss.

And although it does suck not having the extra info, it is better than nothing, as it is still HDR10 and a full remux still quality wise.

Transcoding between formats no, but you can now play DV that you have ripped yourself.

Some info here on how it can work in mp4s:

Quite limited equipment will play it though.

Ooooooooooooo. New information I didn’t know about! Awesome! My ShieldTV still doesn’t support Dolby Vision, so I won’t be adding those in, but good to know it’s possible now!

Oh wait… You have to use AC3 Audio only!? Sad face. I spent far too much on a 5.2.4 system to be limited to AC3 audio. But still good to see progress on getting better video in there!

So is plex able to play a HDR10+ file on the Nvidia Shield? It plays HDR files fine on my shield without transcoding…just wondering about HDR10+…
My TV is able to handle HDR10+ it is a Panasonic FZ950.

supposedly hdr10+ is backwards compatible with hdr10, and plex itself does not care about hdr.

the shield is unlikely to use hdr10+, but as long as your system can direct play the stream, it shouldn’t cause it to transcode.

it is also unlikely that the shield will pass through the hdr10+ to your tv (it will simply be base hdr).

the only way you will get hdr10+ on your hdr10+ tv is via the built in apps, or if/when new hdr10+ streaming boxes come out.
