Dolby Vision not working on 7.24 with single layer mp4 files

Testing out 7.24 on my 2019 tube Shield. My TV is an LG B6, so I have to manually set the interface to 23.976 Hz to get Dolby Vision to work in Netflix/Amazon (this display doesn’t support DV > 30 fps). I tried multiple single layer DV mp4 files in 7.24, with refresh rate switching on and off, and none of them work (they play in HDR). These include 23.976 fps DV files. The same files play back in DV on my Apple TV 4K in Infuse. Anyone had success yet?Plex_DV_log.txt (1.2 MB)

Same here. I tried dual layer and regular MP4s for DV and neither worked.

Could you disable refresh rate and resolution switching in the Plex Settings and then try and play the Dolby Vision video? Ensure the display mode in the Android Settings is set to something that is Dolby Vision compatible as well.

Just tried this myself with refresh & resolution switching off. No Dolby Vision.
Trying the same in Plex on my LG and Dolby Vision does kick in.

Can you confirm inside of the Android Settings that the mode is correct, the resolution needs to be in a mode that supports Dolby Vision and HDR10;

If that is definitely on a Dolby Vision Ready mode, then would you be able to share a sample of the video? I’m testing my content here (mostly samples from Dolby) and a Dual Layer BluRay and they all work correctly.

Do note as well, if your SHIELD goes via your AVR, your AVR needs to have Dolby Vision support, if it does not then you can’t use Dolby Vision.

Yeah in my case I do have an AVR but it is Dolby Vision compatible.
Just confirmed with Netflix content on the Shield giving the DV signal to my TV.
The three files were tested both on the same setting in your screenshot and at 4K 59.940 Hz, definitely with both “Dolby Vision and HDR10 Ready” enabled.

Could you replicate the issue and then grab the logs from Plex? Will take a look. If you could create a sample of the content as well that would be very handy, trying a few more samples here and they all seem to be working correctly.

Lucky on your AVR, seems mine is the model just before Dolby Vision support was added, so I have to skip my AVR and go directly to my TV! :man_facepalming:

Sorry. I missed your request for samples.
The only content that’s single layer is the LG test files.
Will PM the link now.
I would be curious if one of your samples worked here though.
Logs will have to be later as I’m gonna be on mobile while at work

I cant get it to work either. Done the correct settings and netflix works perfectly but not Plex runs as standard HDR when DV file is selected.

Interesting, I’ve tried both files and they correctly switch to Dolby Vision on my TV.

I will need to look over the logs from a Dolby Vision playback attempt, it should hopefully highlight why the Dolby Vision mode isn’t working correctly. Steps on grabbing the logs are available here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201573117-android-android-tv-fire-tv-logs/

Here’s an LG Dolby Vision sample that is single layer and uses MPEGTS as a container, if you could give this a try and let me know how it plays that would be great. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kKRoJEgsDeE59Nbuy8A1DsSvc3eBac08/view?usp=sharing

With this video, an easy way to tell if it’s Dolby Vision will be when the sea scene comes on with the boat (10 seconds into the video), without Dolby Vision the sea will be green, with Dolby Vision it will be blue.

Without Dolby Vision:

With Dolby Vision:

Definitely green sea and not blue. :grinning:
Logs PM’d

Oops, it seems we had the feature flag set for internal testing only. :man_facepalming:

I’ve corrected this, if you kill the application and then reopen Plex, Dolby Vision will play!

Yep that did the trick. :grinning:
Thanks for the quick fix. I just need to source some single layer files now.

By the way. I love the new playback controls and timeline.

Will test it tonight. So dont need to update the app? just close it and re open it?

Yep, thats all I did.

Yeap, just close the app and reopen it, we sync the flags on startup.

did you mention you got a dual layer bluray to out in DV? I didnt think that was possible with dual layer? Havent had chance to test it yet

Works for me for single-layer DV now. Was able to play Pet Sematary in single-layer DV MP4 on Plex on the Shield and my LG C8 TV activates Dolby Vision mode. Very nice.

Do you have any idea when dual-layer DV support will be added? Maybe you can add on-the-fly transcoding for dual-layer to single-layer DV in Plex. It only took 30 minutes to convert my 2-hour length dual-layer DV MP4 to a single-layer DV MP4 so it’s possible to be done on the fly.

Dual Layer should already play correctly it will just miss the enhancements of the second layer. At the moment we have no plans to add Dolby Vision transcoding support.

I am also not able to get DV to work on my new Shield Pro. I am running the above mentioned beta. I tried all the trouble shooting that you have go through on this thread and still no dice. DV works perfectly on Netflix and Amazon on the Shield so I know its not my AVR, TV or cables.

I tried both Single Layer and Dual layer MP4 DV movies.
