Server Version#: 1.20.3.3483
Player Version#: 8.8.0.21200
Hi,
I was following the Beta discussion for 8.8.0 and now that it’s released I wanted to check in about what the expectations should be with Plex for Fire TV Stick 4K and Dolby Vision. As it is, it’s a mixed bag with different settings. For simplicity of reproduction I’m using the “dvtest” samples from MakeMKV that can be found here: https://www.makemkv.com/download/dvtest/
I am using an LG CX 65. Dolby Vision content from Amazon Prime and Netflix play correctly. Plex Server is running on a Synology DS920+
Setting 1:
Fire: Video Resolution = Auto, Match Original Frame Rate = ON
Plex: Refresh Rate Switching = ON
P4_LG_Dolby_Trailer_4K_Demo.mkv (24fps):
Dolby Vision trigger in upper right, followed by “The Server is not powerful enough to convert video”. On second try, Stick crashes, needs power cycle.
P5_Dolby_Amaze.mkv (60fps):
Plays perfectly
P7_FEL_GIJoe_The_Rise_of_Cobra.mkv (24fps):
Dolby Vision trigger in upper right, sound plays, no video (display black)
P7_MEL_GIJoe_The_Rise_of_Cobra.mkv (24fps):
trigger, not powerful enough
P81_GlassBlowing2_3840x2160@59_94fps_15200kbps.mkv (60fps):
Plays perfectly
So clearly the 24fps is a problem.
Same settings but with Plex Refresh Rate Switching = OFF
The ones that worked above still worked.
P4_LG_Dolby_Trailer_4K_Demo.mkv (24fps):
trigger, sound, no video
P7_FEL_GIJoe_The_Rise_of_Cobra.mkv (24fps):
trigger, sound, no video
P7_MEL_GIJoe_The_Rise_of_Cobra.mkv (24fps):
I think it worked? I get a static photo and sound. DV trigger.
With my own UHD rips at 24fps I get the same results, DV trigger with sound and no picture.
Is there anything to try as far as settings? Should this now be working? Apparently all of these are working on the Shield, is that correct? Is there hope for this to work on the Fire Stick in the future? I’m hoping to eventually get DV on my own files without new hardware, but I can wait. I suppose I would eat it and buy the Shield if there was no hope, however.
Please let me know what logs or extra info I can provide to help with this.
Thanks!
