Firestick Dolby Vision issues with Panasonic TV

Server Version#:1.41.8.9834
Player Version#:10.30.1.3505
Let me start by saying I have multiple Firesticks or various ages and version and most work without any issues. Plex plays to multiple devices (laptops, mobiles etc) without issue.

Ok - so I’ve just updated to a Firestick 4k (2nd Gen) Wifi 6 capable stick. It supports DolbyVision and my Panasonic TV automatically switches to DolbyVision as its display mode when I change to the sticks HDMI connection. I can’t prevent the TV from doing this. It detects the Doby output and just does it. I have a Firestick 4k Max as well that also does exactly the same. An older 4K 1st gen stick doesn’t output DolbyVision and on the same TV on the same HDMI channel the TV doesn’t switch it’s viewing mode.

With that established - Plex has an issue playing any 4k HDR content on either the new 2nd gen or 4K Max sticks - it eventually times out to ‘An error occurred while attempting to play this video etc’ message. If I select a 4K video or 1080 I can usually guarantee it will play,

The same movie played on the old stick plays fine at 4K HDR with the TV switching to DolbyVision as soon as the movie starts to play. i.e. The older stick doesn’t output DolbyVision by default, but does allow the signal through along with the video and the TV can detect that and switch mode (when needed).

My thought is there is some sort of transcode conflict between the DolbyVision capable sticks and Plex, that’s preventing it from playing. I think I’ve proved it’s not an individual stick issue and its not my network, or server config.

Is there some sort of solution to this? I really want to take advantage of wifi6 on the new stick.
