I just bought a lovely LG OLED65GX, but now I have my HTPC sitting at waiting for Dolby Vision support for Plex Media Player.
When do you Plex people plan to add support for it?

Development of Plex Media Player has been suspended. There wonât be no new features added. It will only âkept runningâ with its current feature set.
Try using the Plex client which is available natively on the LG set.
So neither âPlex for Windowsâ nor the Plex addon for Kodi (under Windows) will ever do the job?
âPlex Media Playerâ and âPlex for Windowsâ are different things.
I donât know if the Plex add-on for Kodi will get an update. I hear someone is working on making it Kodi 19-compatible first.
Thatâs why I was wondering.
Thanks will do some search now and then to see if thereâs any news about Dolby Vision support for Windows computers.
When you say âDolby Vision supportâ, what exactly do you mean?
Do you mean the ability to pass-through the DV metadata to the display (which then itself has to be DV-compatible)?
Or do you mean the ability to perform Tone Mapping from a DV-file to a regular SDR display?
The latter will not really be possible.
This.
Straight DV content going from the Plex server in my NAS to the (compliant) TV works perfectly.
When doing the same from the PC only HDR stuff is working.
I somewhere saw a âDolby Visionâ-enabler app in the MS app store. It said that itâll only work if the whole device has been certified by Dolby.
Something tells me that this will exclude practically every desktop compter that allows you to plug in a GPU card.
I confirm that it was a completely useless purchase for me (as for many others I imagineâŠ).
Itâs the HEVC codec license you need to buy from the Microsoft Store.
I hope someone will come up with a solution soon because allowing DV to work on Android and NVIDIA Shield and not on a (powerfull enough) computer is really ridiculous.
Thanks for replying and clearing things out to me.
Any progress on this?
I too am looking for a Plex player for Windows 10 that supports sending Dolby Vision to a DV certified TV. I would think many others, especially those with powerful gaming graphics cards, would appreciate this functionality. It could also be a good selling feature since there doesnât seem to be any software players for Win10 that support Dolby Vision (yet).
Does Win10 have some kind of Dolby Vision technical limitation thatâs making this problematic? Licensing perhaps?
