My remote access keeps going from fully accessible to Not available outside your network. I am assuming my issue stems from a double NAT situation and am wondering how others worked this out.
I currently have AT&T Uverse internet. Because of that, I am forced to use their modem/router. From there I have my own router that is much better, that I feed my home from and connect all devices.
Sadly AT&T internet will not work without the uverse router, and that router is not powerful enough to reach throughout my entire home. So I am kind of stuck into a double NAT situation.
In most cases you double NATs will give you nothing but grief. See if your AT&T router has a bridge mode, if so enable that. Then your 2nd router will handle the WAN connection. If not you you need connect the AT&T modem to a standard local port on your router and not you WAN/Internet port. You will also need to disable the DHCP on your router since the AT&T modem will handle that in this case.
Thank you all for the feed back. I am going to check to see if I can set the AT&T router into a bridge mode and hope that solves the problem as that seems (in my mind) the simplest solution.
ChuckPA,
I have to use the Uverse modem/router as a commercial router will not work directly with their fiber optic box. But that router is not strong enough to reach my entire home. So I had to buy a better router for my house.
Okay, it’s been a while since I dove back into this but here is an update. I am not a network guy by any means so get nervous to start changing things within these routers.
I contacted AT&T tech support about my issue. They recommend putting my AT&T router in DMZPlus Mode which will bypass all AT&T security on their router and just direct traffic straight to my ASUS router.
So I did this, and no change. My Remote Access stays Enabled for a short time and then jumps from Enabled to Disabled.
