Hi I updated the app and now just regret it, is there a way I can downgrade it on my iphone? Thank you
Sadly you cannot downgrade via the App Store on iOS.
Maybe through jailbreak but I don’t know enough about that to point you in the right direction.
Only way would be for the Plex team to re-release the old app, probably via a new listing under “Plex legacy” or whatever they would want to call it but I wouldn’t get my hopes up as this feels like a “when pigs fly” situation because of what that would mean for the product on the long run.
Personally, this feels like they pulled a Sonos but even worse, in my case as my Plex is now completely unusable remotely.
No, Apple do not allow downgrades of apps. It used to be possible in some cases if you’d done an iTunes backup and had the IPA file still in the backup, but people don’t really do that anymore.
What makes it unusable? It seems to work fine to me.
My ISP puts me behind CGNAT (like many nowadays) so my Plex is only accessible via IPv6, it worked perfectly with the old iOS app but doesn’t work with the new one.
gotcha
@mb28 why do you regret it? I am just curious… i just downloaded it and i am unable to access my music library from the IOS app now. I cannot find it in the menus anywhere. I use my music daily at the gym and office, and this is already off to a not so great start.
I didn’t expect to come here and speak up, but this update caught me completely off guard. Why would Plex release a new app with “a new experience” that is apparently some beta version? When browsing my library, I had I few freezes, so I had to force-stop the app and start over again. When checking out my TV shows from my local storage, I don’t get a nice list of episodes again, but just a horizontal bar that I need to scroll through. All view settings (posters, list) disappeared, and I get a dumbed down “Smart” TV interface. Plus, now the series overview and the episodes overview look different, didn’t they talk about a polished user interface? I really didn’t expect this, so I didn’t make a local backup of the old version unfortuantely, and Apple prevents us from rolling back otherwise. I was such a big fan of Plex so far, and now there’s a huge disappointment.
They didn’t fix transcoding in Live TV.
I reported multiple times for Plex Experience that Live TV (from tuner) always transcoding.
Old app didn’t had this problem.
I think one of the big problems with the thought process over at Plex is they don’t realize that most users don’t really read emails regarding “new Plex experience” coming, and they definitely aren’t over here on the forums watching the news about a new version.
So instead they are totally blindsided when suddenly their app is auto-updated to a completely different looking version that doesn’t work nearly as similar to what they’ve been using for a long time now.
JUST TOTALLY DUMB!
I fully regret updating the app on my iPad. I use it while on the road and use the downloads function quite a bit. The new app has left out SOOOOOOO many things. You would have thought people would take note from Sonos, but nope, just more terrible development. Thanks plex….
It’s a separate app now - look for “Plex Amp” in the App Store.
Phew, I just found out there is a way to downgrade an app, actually, although the steps are not for the faint-hearted. Do a search for “How to Downgrade Apps on AppStore with iTunes” with your favorite search engine.
Also learned about that it’s possible with Apple Configurator to prevent one specific app from iOS auto update. For now I thought of „all or nothing“ would be the only way
I can’t see my music libraries at all.. this makea it total unusable.
Plex ios 2025.10.1 is broken, I am on Windows Plex 1.41.5.9522.
After the last update it cannot cast to airplay or chromecast, and the option to cast to google home has been completely removed. Worst. Update. Ever.!!!
I believe this is intentional and not expected to change, Plexamp is what you need to use moving forward.
The funny thing is that I DO read emails regarding the new Plex experience and yet didn’t see mention of this loss of functionality.
I’ve actually never received an email from Plex. Any idea how this can be enabled?
Configure your e-mail preferences here:

I think enabling “Newsletters & Product News” will cover it.
(You can get to this page from your account settings, too. Navigate here and scroll to the bottom. Click the manage em-mails link.)
