To downgrade the app, follow the instructions HERE
When you get to step 4 and need the build version number, i used 871812101. This is the latest version before the new/terrible version.
In the instructions it says “In some cases, the Breakpoint popup can appear twice. Simply edit the current Build version number like above one more time, and you’re good to go.”
All i had to do was just click “execute” without changing anything when the 2nd breakpoint popup showed up.
Get the App manager (app installer software) from HERE
I had the same issue but they have removed the music function from the plex app and have a different app now. So everytime I go to the app it usually asks me which user which is fine but if I am watching something and then go back it asks every single time and it never use to do this. Also when watching something it has rewind and forward but no option to go to next ep unless I am not looking correctly. @anr377 Yeah I really don’t understand why they have done this. Funny thins is I updated the app as I had a long list of apps to update and just assumed it was a normal app update. I should have learnt from sonos and actually read what the update included. @Lazarus_Long Exactly I had no idea all these big changes were coming. @anr377 yeah I know there are ways but why must we have go through it all. I bought lifetime plex many many years ago and don’t want to be dealing with this. @owenrg thanks for posting this here. Just not sure if I can be bothered to do all that
It’s frustrating how difficult it is to downgrade apps on iOS. The new version is broken—I can’t use it for 90% of my content because the ‘zoom to fill’ feature is gone.
I’m very glad that I was able to downgrade the app with the tutorial that I found. It will save you from so much frustration with the new app, and brings back the good old Plex experience that we all loved so much. Even if it would take an hour or more (but it’s really not more than a few minutes), I’d go through the process, compared to the time you waste with the new app. You can go through the tutorial step by step, the only thing you have to remember is clicking “Execute” in the very last step, that wasn’t marked in the screenshots.
Okay kinda off topic but what am I missing? When watching a tv show I have options to go back 30 and forward 30 but why is there no option to go to the next ep??
Why does every new product person need to fix what isn’t broken. Please don’t. You had a product that a lot of us were satisfied and were happy to keep paying monthly to just have you maintain. Now i may have to build my own app using some ai assistance. At least then i know it won’t change without my input.
Most decent apps have in-app notifications about updates well in advance. Not Plex apperantly. I just open the app one day and it’s completely different and I need to download a separate app just for music.
This is great!! The only bit I would add to the GitHub instructions is that when you finally have the older version of the app ready to go in your iTunes app on the windows PC, that you right click the app to be able to show the folder location where it is stored. Without that I never would have found the IPA location for the app manager program to use.
So quick question…once you have the IPA file downloaded, is there any reason that couldn’t be emailed to someone else? Then all they would need to do is import the IPA file into iTunes and install it. A lot less work than setting up the Charles proxy, getting the breakpoint to hit and hope you get the old version of the file lol.
It’s not that big of a file - sort of surprised there isn’t an website on the web where they are stored like APK files.
The .ipa file is linked to your apple account, someone posted theirs earlier and it asked for their apple password when I tried to use it. You can keep the .ipa file somewhere though and if you try the new Plex app again and hate it, you can air drop / resend it your apple device without doing the whole process again.
I keep the 8.45 on my macbook and just airdrop it to my ipad after testing the new app, again and again. You could probably even use a thumb drive to load it on.
You mention Airdropping the IPA file from your Mac. I don’t have a Mac (Windows and Ubuntu), but I wonder if I could save the file to my iPhone and Airdrop the file from my iPhone to my iPad? That would make it a lot easier to go back and forth between versions for testing.
