Would it be possible to add a feature to download all albums of an artist such that Plexamp automatically downloads new albums when those are added to the server?
IIRC you can already do that…
Option 1
- Open
Library>Artists>[Artist Name] - Select
â‹®>Download Artist Shuffle
This will create a playlist from all songs of that artist which can be refreshed automatically/manually
Option 2
- Open
Library>Artists - Filter your library for
[Artist Name] - Select
Downloadfrom the action bar
For both options this will create a single (browsable) item in your downloads section. This item will contain all downloaded songs – though they won’t be organized by albums etc.
You are right on both accounts but both have the same basic problem that you also mention. I do not want one big list where all the music is mixed.
I want to simply be able to deal with an artist in downloads in the same way as when I stream directly from my server and if that is not possible due to a limitation in the underlying “download” code I would still appreciate a shortcut that allows me to download a playlist with all the albums of one author when I have selected Library> Artists> [Artist Name]. That shuffle option does not automatically download all music as far as I understand it it can not download more than 8 hours and it chooses its songs at random.
How about creating a smart collection and download/sync that?
That sounds like a nice solution but there are two problems with it.
The first is that I do not know how you can make a smart collection in Plexamp 
The second is that if it works like the name implies then I would still want the shortcut under Library> Artists> [Artist Name] to make a smart collection for one specific artist and download it to my device.
Download will be available via normal navigation to the artist so you don’t actually need a short cut, in actual fact, navigation to collections is much quicker and you maintain the same view as you would in the library.
We’ll be adding support for that in the future.

I tried it and yes it works. So I wanted to thank you for the comment.
In the end, however, I am still very glad that in the future (as mentioned by elan) it will be possible to simply download an entire author instead of having to use these workarounds. Because workarounds are in my opinion usually an indication of a feature that is simply missing.
