Download ALL Of Music Library

Can anyone suggest a RELIABLE app (3rd party or otherwise) that will allow me to download my entire music collection (currently about 63GB) but to my iPhone.

I am a music lover and my music is literally what prompted me to get started with PLEX years ago. I have attempted to saving my entire music library to my iPhones over the year but have never been completely successful.

The problems I generally experience when I try to download in bulk is that it crashes the app, which means I have to do one by one (I usually do each artist one by one). This works for a while but then, when a certain amount has been download (usually about when I get to artists whose names start with C or D), that’s when the app starts crashing again. However less frequently than when I try to download in bulk, it still occurs. I’ve never gotten past the L’s because aside from the crashing it just takes soooo long.

The gist of all of this is, my music collection is really important to me, specifically on my commutes to and from work when I am without service or in a foreign country where data can be wonky. Does anyone know of an app that will allow me to download my entire music library so that I have it with me on the go. I literally need no bells and whistles. Just want my music to be available whenever I want to listen to it.

PS. In case it’s relevant information, my iPhone has storage of 512GB

Have you tried Prism?

I can’t find that on the App Store

Thank you.

I’ve set it downloading more than 20k music tracks on the trial and it seems to be struggling to remain responsive (although it’s downloading the music pretty damn fast)

It’s not duplicating tracks like PlexAmp does thankfully.

I’m crossing my fingers that it works well. :grinning:

I gave up on Plex for having the whole library offline. I wrote a script that extracts rating and other info from Plex and then updates iTunes. Both use the same media (for music) folder. I use Plex to rate the music, then I use iTunes to sync it to the iPhone and iPad. I make all my smart lists in iTunes and Plex (sucks) so there are in both apps. I could probably script that too, but i don’t create too many smart lists.

My music library is close to 700GB (ALAC), so I rely on iTunes to convert it to AAC. I also only sync 3 star or better tracks.

Another solution is to use Foobar on iOS. It has an FTP server option you can use to copy the whole library to the iPhone. It also works with playlist files, so as long as they use relative paths, you can copy them over too.

There really isn’t anything better than iTunes for this, unfortunately. The Plex team isn’t interested in playing in this space, so don’t hold your breath. JRiver isn’t either, unfortunately. If you want to manage your music in Plex, you will likely need to use a another program like iTunes, and script ways to keep them in sync. Not trivial.

I left iTunes because it started to seriously go downhill, so I moved to Plex and It’s great except for taking music offline. PlexAmp has potential except for the lack of offline search, duplication of tracks.

hopefully Prism is better.

Prism is OK as long as you don’t need transcoding. It doesn’t transcode yet.

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies. I actually have prism but couldn’t find success with it downloading the ENTIRE music library, unfortunately. Trier PlexAmp as well, and while it downloads SOME tracks extremely fast, it won’t do the entire library. I was hoping to prevent from downloading extra apps by using the native PLEX app, but yeeeeah lol I’ll try looking into the Foobar thing and see where that gets me.

Yeah Plexamp doesn’t do the entire libary, it has a limit of 24h per playlist.

Prism worked for me.

It seems to only like downloading about 6GB at a time. But after many, many repeated requests to download my “All Tracks” playlist, it eventually downloaded everything and it’s working really well.

You can even search while offline. :grinning:

Another very interesting feature of Prism is that it makes its downloads folder accessible to other apps (Files app “On My iPhone” → Prism → Music). This means that you can play the synced tracks in other music players that support the iPhone’s local storage, such as djay.

Plexamp and the Plex app both keep their downloads folder inside their sandboxed location, which means those songs are only accessible within the respective apps.

Oh man this is a life saver. I’ve been struggling for over three days to get my 20GB (and growing) music library downloaded onto my phone. I just got Prism and it took about 30 minutes.

Seriously thank you for the Prism recommendation. So good.
