Downloaded content cannot be played from home screen or library while online

I read thru several of the threads regarding known issues with Download feature and did not come across this one specifically. I keep several shows downloaded to Android tablet “just in case” but mostly I watch while online. If I have the option to prefer downloaded content over streaming, playing that content from home screen or library fails with this error:

I can play it while online by navigating directly to the Downloads section. Disabling the option to prefer downloaded content over streaming obviously allows playback from home screen but this is clearly not the ideal solution, nor is turning off WiFi everytime I’m watching something.
