Downloaded content does not play when on mobile data and limit is set

Server Version#: 1.26.2.5797
Player Version#: 9.4.0.33105

Potentially related to this.

I have been using a different app for watching content on my commute due to some issues with Plex but decided to give it another try now. A lot of the issues seem to be working but I do notice there is one lingering one. When I am on mobile data and try to play a downloaded file from the home screen it doesn’t load and just spins and never does anything.

Looking at my logs I noticed this:

06-13 13:54:30.965 i: [MediaDecisionEngine] Prefer synced content is enabled, so ignoring alternative media items.
06-13 13:54:30.965 i: [MediaDecisionEngine] Analyzing media: 1920x960 10216kbps (Container: mkv, Video: h264, Audio: aac)
06-13 13:54:30.968 i: [MediaDecisionEngine] Bitrate 10216 exceeds maximum allowed (720)
06-13 13:54:30.969 i: [MediaDecisionEngine] Selected subtitle (srt) can be direct played (via Transcode? true)

and decided to try some things and noticed I only have issues when all of these are true:

  • On Mobile Data
    • On wifi, everything seems to work as intended.
  • Settings > Advanced > Player > Prefer downloaded content is enabled
    • Disabled, it plays via transcoding from the server (maybe expected?)
  • Content has been downloaded
    • If I play content not downloaded it plays via transcoding from the server (expected)
  • Playing Item from anywhere but the Downloads section
    • If in the Downloads section it plays from downloaded file
  • Settings > Quality > Video Quality > Remote streaming quality or Settings > Quality > Video Quality > Limit cellular data to something lower than the downloaded content ( for test set it to 320p 0.7 Mbps)
    • If Remote streaming quality is set to Maximum and Limit cellular data is set to off it plays the downloaded content from the home screen correctly

For now I have just disabled the remote quality limits, but it’s not ideal.

Let me know if you want some logs and I can send some your way.

Thanks,

Tyler
