Once again I am about to board a flight and the download feature doesn’t work. This has never worked correctly. How is this feature still so awful after all these years?
I don’t understand how streaming works so well, but downloading, which is easier from a software design/architectural standpoint compared to streaming, still doesn’t work.
Is this intentional or is it a developer competency issue? Can someone with actual software development technical knowledge please explain to me why this doesn’t work? This is ridiculous. Why did I pay money for a product that is missing feature after all of these years?
What a joke… hire better developers. There are plenty that need work and likely have a higher level of competency than the people you already have given the quality of code that exists on the download feature. Please stop embarrassing yourselves and fix this feature.
As I said in my previous reply to your deleted post, downloads have and still works fine for me.
Various iPhones and iPads on various iOS releases and Plex app releases.
I downloaded 5 movies today to our A16 iPad without issue.
Now, I do have issues with the iOS UI but that is another topic discussed elsewhere.
I’m only posting to say not all of us have issues with the download side of things. There are seven family members accessing the server with iOS devices and a quick message I sent after your previous post got replied by all and no one was having issues with the download part.
Edit - I did have one issue a while back with downloads but worked out I forgot I had VPN on and the server wouldn’t reply. Turned VPN off and all good.
No, it doesn’t work on both iOS and Android. I get failed downloads, retries don’t restart automatically, and retries fail too. Once I have an issue I have to remove it completely and re-add it for downloading. This has been a consistent issue for YEARS now.
A quick Google search found and I found many other people complaining about the same issues that I am having. Great that it works for you, but that is not the case for a large portion of the people out there.
I’d prefer to hear from an actual Plex employee, ideally an engineer, as to why this is such a difficult software problem for them to solve. This should not be that complicated. It seems intentional at this point.
I use downloads every Monday - Friday and they work fine for me on iOS 97% of the time.
Not sure you’re going to get a comment, but if you want some actual help from Plex you need to provide them with information on your setup. Plex server and Client logs from failed downloads with debugging turned on (not verbose,) will potentially point them to the problem you’re experiencing.
