Downloads - please allow options for Playlists

Trying to transition to the new Download feature from Sync (which always worked great for me).

I can tell Plex to download the next 3 unwatched eps of a series, but I can’t do the same from a Playlist. Any reason why not? I use Playlists to watch series in order where there are specials scattered through the run - like Doctor Who for example. So I have a playlist that has the series in transmission order. If I ask Plex to download the next 5 episodes of Doctor Who it starts with season 0 rather than the next episode in transmission order. If I ask it to download my playlist it tries to download the entire thing with no options for amount of eps as there were with Sync. Could that functionality come back please?!

The option to download a partial playlist is not available with Downloads. We are looking to possibly add this in the future.

I’ve found a workaround - I adjusted the settings in the smart playlist for Doctor Who to only have 10 items. So if I tell my iPad to download that playlist it only gets 10 episodes. It would be good to be able to set that in the downloads options however

I would like to second this request. My whole process with Sync was to sync a limited number of unwatched items from dozens of different playlists. Without any filtering options for downloading playlists, the new Downloads feature is unusable for me. My only option is to download the entire playlist, which in many cases, these playlists are massive., or to do as @littlealex suggested and create duplicate smart playlists with filtering for each playlist. Seems unreasonably complicated, and it will create a ton of clutter in my playlist library.

Actually I haven’t created duplicate playlists, just edited them to set a maximum item count. The only thing lost doing this is not being able to look ahead as far when reading the playlist. It automatically adds more items on as I watch eps.

I think settings for playlists will come in time and I’m happy with the workround until then. More important I think is for Plex to look at the logistics of having to have the iOS app active for the full amount of time it takes the server to transcode and send everything. The sync system where transcodes would happen without the app being active and then quickly download to the device was much better. There’s no point using the function on my phone anymore and it’s a pain having to leave the ipad screen on but unusable for anything else to update downloads. This needs changing.
