Dropping Plex

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

Recently had to change platforms so reinstalled Plex. Plex has seemed to be suffering in it’s migration from older versions to newer. This latest version is too stupid for words. Uninstalled it and not going back. There is something basically wrong when a program that is supposed to help you look at your media can’t even display one entire row of available selections (not enough vertical space). When I first started using Plex you could see several rows at a time. Now you can’t even see all of one. Lame.

Can you provide screenshots that show what you’re describing?

You can look at Emby to provide what you want. However I would warn you that Emby is imperfect as well. It is just imperfect in different ways.

The grass is not always greener on the other side of the street however “The Grass is Always Greener Over the Septic Tank.”

I mostly switched to Emby some time ago (I still use Plex for a few things. I am pretty happy with Emby BUT it is not for everyone. Its interface is simpler and less cluttered and there is little Emby provided content and I find that quite good. One of the things that drove me away from Plex was that Plex made it harder and harder to just access and play my media. Plex keeps trying to shove a lot of things I do not want or even like down my throat and, while most of the extra stuff can be turned off or easily ignored is quickly reached the point of simply not being worth the effort.

The other thing that I quickly learned to like about Emby is the responsiveness and helpfulness of the Emby developers and staff. But I do have to say that in appears that Plex has recently begun to address their weakness in that area.

You might want to visit the Emby forums and even ask a few questions but, assuming your media is pretty much in accord with Plex’s requirements it will also meet Emby’s requirements. If your media is not fully compliant you may well have problems using Emby with the poor data. Emby would just have mostly different problems.

I now use Emby almost 95% of the time for viewing my media but I have not burned all my bridges should I ever wish to move back. I firmly believe in redundancy. But I also feel it is a good idea to “Help stamp out and abolish redundancy.”
