DSD to USB DAC using Plex Media Player

Hey all,

Is there anyway to get Plex Media Player to send DSD audio to a DAC when using Plex Media Player. Plex Media Server seems to always transcode DSD files…

Best Regards

Guy

Not sure on DSD support in Plex - if there’s SACD support then maybe…
Next hurdle is getting PMP to output audio to your USB DAC (assuming thats what you’re using). I think rasPlex support USB DACs.
If file support was there and you had a receiver that supports DSD over HDMI that might work.

There is some DSD support (not sure how much), but it’ll always be converted to PCM. That’s not really bad, but I know DSD fans won’t be happy about this.

Just getting USB DAC support would be good though. Would be nice to aim towards a high end multichannel DAC like an exasound.

If you just want to send PCM to an USB DAC, then PMP should be seeing it as a normal sound card on all platforms.

OK, thanks for the replies.

So I persume there is no way to just passthough the DSD to the DAC for decoding.

At what sampling rate are DSD files transcoded to and is there anyway to configure this (so I can set it to the DAC’s max PCM rate)?

Apparently 1/8 of the DSD rate.

When you set your DAC to a fixed sampling rate of e.g. 96kHz, then PMP adapts all audio accordingly.
I do the same and have found I get the best sonics with 96 kHz. (even though my interface does 192 kHz too)

I glanced at their products. $500 minimum for a half meter RCA cable? :)) [-X

Maybe they have this incredibly good-sounding USB cable too?
Or the directional Ethernet patch cable?

Don’t know if you have found a solution yet. But if you transcode the DSD files to DSD over PCM and set the Plex media players to exclusive mode and maximize the volume, you can achieve DSD bit perfect playback. It’s a work around.
