DSM 6.1.4-15217 Update 2 / Plex keeps stopping

When you have the next problem, Collect the logs as soon as possible after restart.
The information I need will be in the rollover (.1 -> .5) logs.

I just noticed the PMS package was not running. I started it and immediately downloaded the logs, attached.

Please conduct this test for me. I think you have a deep corruption in the DB which isn’t showing up. PMS should not be running migrations and just ‘stopping’ without a crash log.

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Open the Plex share in FileStation
  3. Rename Library to Library.save
  4. Start PMS
  5. Setup a whole new PMS instance. Be careful to use a new “Friendly” name which is obvious to you that it’s the test instance.
  6. Give it time to setup and initialize as you go through it. Specifically give it 30 seconds after you start before you open the Dashboard in your browser to begin claim/setup/configure. Your previous logs show things occurring very out of sequence which does not make sense
  7. Please advise of your results

I followed your steps. No crash yet, but am posting logs in case you can tell if things are happening in the correct order.

Everything is good so far. Nothing unexpected or out of sequence

Ok, I will schedule more recordings and add my other library types. Thanks for all the help! Will report back when I encounter a crash or if we go several weeks without a crash.

Just noticed PMS is not running. Logs attached.

Great capture. Crash data was uploaded. Would you please look under Plex Media Server for Crash Reports and PM me any of the report files you find if still there? That will allow guaranteed linkage to your system so we can find out where it died.

No luck. The Plex Media Server directory under Crash Reports was created at 20:39, but it is empty.
Does Plex delete them after reporting them?
Should I retrieve them immediately when I start Plex after a crash?

That’s fine. That means everything, including the report, made it up.
Please do leave the logs there. One of the team members specializes in crashes.

Another crash. Do you think you have what you need in the logs I’ve given you thus far, or should I keep uploading them?

Thinking the removal of commercials + maintenance tasks is maxing out CPU on the Synology and crashing PMS. Just a hunch, though; haven’t been able to prove it.
Currently trying an install of PMS on a desktop PC and leaving the media on the Synology. Will post an update when I get all the recordings scheduled on the PC PMS.

I apologize for the delay. Somehow I missed your post (very unusual)

I would minimize the maintenance tasks, personally.

  1. Why get metadata again if it’s static?
  2. Unless you’re streaming externally and at varying bitrates, you don’t need deep analysis.
