DTS-HD/AAC 7.1 playback

I have my PS4 setup for Linear PCM. But I also see it can do Dolby and DTS in the options. In our plex app we have an AC3 receiver checkbox.

My question is… does plex passthrough the DTS 7.1 or transcode it down to 5.1. If that is the case. When will Plex pass 7.1 and other high end codecs to the PS4? If it was passed to the PS4,since I have linear PCM, it should send the sound to my receiver that can do the decode.

Unfortunately although your PS4 supports DTS the application platform provided to developers does not allow access to all the capabilities of the console.
Have a look here for the FAQ answer but basically DTS content will be transcoded to AC3 if you have that enabled in the Plex app.

what about aac 7.1? is that transcoded to ac3? it says transcoding to aac. so am i getting just aac 2.0?

So I see in the logs
Metadata:
encoder : Lavc56.41.100 libx264
Stream #0:1(eng), 0, 1/90000: Audio: aac, 48000 Hz, 5.1, fltp, 768 kb/s (default)

So I am assuming it is sending aac 5.1… does the playstation play the 5.1?

New to this and I know playstation obeys ac3 5.1 not just sure about aac 5.1
