Good evening,
I have an older TV that allows DTS passthrough and a soundbar that can decode DTS.
Unfortunately, I currently have to use the Kodi add-on PlexKodiConnect, as a proper passthrough is not possible in the Plex app for Android via HDMI.
I will try to describe the problem in more detail:
When I play a medium with DTS 5.1 or DTS HD MA 5.1 soundtrack and pass it through to the soundbar, the stream is played via Direct Play. This works so far. If I try to play a medium with a DTS HD MA 7.1 sound track, Plex tries to transcode according to the log and breaks off after a few moments. I suspect it’s because the soundbar can decode DTS up to 5.1, but not DTS HD MA 5.1 or 7.1. With DTS HD MA 5.1, the core soundtrack should play, which is lossy DTS 5.1.
With DTS HD MA 7.1 this does not seem to work, the stream does not come up.
In Kodi, in the advanced settings at expert level, there is the option to select the individual codecs for the audio output and with the DTS codec selected, the DTS HD MA 7.1 audio tracks are also forwarded to the soundbar as DTS without any playback problems.
See the settings on this screenshot:
Same medium in Plex:
Can you take a look at this? I’m playing through Kodi right now, but have been used to Plex for a long time and can’t get to grips with the UI.
EDIT:
It is more specifically a Samsung TV from 2017 MU6409 and its own Plex app can DTS HD MA 7.1 passthrough to the soundbar. Unfortunately, this TV then has other problems and cannot play PCM 5.1.
