I have spent many hours battling with this over the years and eventually found a setup that worked. the mission: to get DTS Playback.
I have a Sony Bravia Android 4K TV
Onkyo TX-SR606 Receiver
Amazon Fire TV
Kef 5.1 speakers
Virgin Media
Up until recently I used SPMC running on the Amazon Fire TV box to watch moves in DTS.
But SPMC has stopped working, it can connect to my Plex Server because it can see new content and play music, but if I try to play a movie it gives a message on screen;

ERROR: (400) bad_request
I see that SPMC is no longer active so I’m trying to find another way. The Plex player on Amazon Fire TV has never supported DTS passthough so I’m looking at other options.
I’ve installed Plex directly on the TV, there must have been an update because that didn’t previously work. I can play movies in 5.1 but not DTS. I’ve tried the XPlay app (at vast expense - £5) and that also plays, but DTS Movies refuse to play at all.
This used to work fine and the way my surround sound is set up DTS makes quite a noticeable difference. I saw on one of the thread earlier about re-analyzing my libraries, so I tried that on 2 and no difference so far.
