Allow for dual streams with Picture in Picture with ability to swap between active and smaller screen.
Idea is you can be in another screen while another streaming service continues to be active and streaming so that you don’t have to sit through items like commercials because of inability to fast-forward.
Just like cable or OTA you can change the channel while commercial is on and then return after a minute or two and the stream has continued and are not subjected to sitting through the commercial.
I believe the only place anything like PiP should be activated at all is on the display device.
It has no place in servers or applications.
The only reason for PiP is watching live TV and even then it should be up to the display device to allow watching multiple sources.
For me one source, like Plex, should equal one picture.
My real concern is performance. Nearly every time Plex adds a feature it also adds to the overhead imposed on either the server or the client or both and at some point, which already has been hit for many devices, the overhead will overwhelm the system and Plex will become dysfunctional.
But Plex is noted for overloading the system and this is exactly the kind of near useless feature that they will probably implement.
I doubt most people want this but is is exactly the kind of thing where Plex will show their stupidity and use up valuable resources implementing something that will have for most people just a novelty effect. That is it will be used for a short time and then abandoned as the useless feature it is.
BTW: On the rare occasions that I watch something with commercials I usually simply mute the system. And, if it is going to be a long commercial period like halftime at a soccer (real football) match, I may play part of an audiobook (which uses a completely different system) and listen to a few minutes of a good book while waiting for the trash to get off the screen.
I just wish Plex would actually develop a system that does one thing and does it well and the moves to the next thing. That might switch me back to where I use Plex for 80-90% of my streaming instead of the 5-15% I currently use.
There’s already an existing feature suggestion thread asking for PIP mode on all apps.
