Want to discuss dumping Amazon. I’m upset about them forcing Prime Music into permanent shuffle mode as an inducement to purchase Music Unlimited(this is not the only reason has been coming for a while).
Some background, personal network have run a Plex server on my PC(moved all my old VHS/DVD onto it) for quite a while. Have laptop Fire Tablet, Firestick, Droid phone(Motorola). Care very little for TV live or otherwise get torrents for the rare TV series I like( I can count that on one hand in the last decade).
So I’m looking for some movie, TV, music, etc as needed aside from a regular streaming service.
Tell me what about the Plex Pass is worth putting out some money?
Plex Pass won’t get you media content.

Ok that answers one question and I will have to read up on TIDAL music. What else can it do for me if I kick Amazon to the curb.? How well can use this to replace it?
I can’t answer that well, since I never used Amazon for media.
Plex has its largest strengths if you have a large collection of media files of your own.
IMHO, Tidal and the free ad-supported movies, tv shows, and streaming channels are best used to augment your own collection (or get inspiration to expand it).
Tidal is pretty cool. If you have any music of your own, you can integrate Tidal albums and tracks into it. Track quality is unparalleled.
Also, for movies and shows you already have, Plex will list the music tracks in them on the info page.
PlexAmp is great in the car. The crossfades and Artist Radios can’t be beat.
I’m sure I’m only scratching the surface here. I switched from Amazon to Tidal myself… You have to set up playlists again and such, but I’m super happy with it. Go for the free trial and see for yourself.
Thank you I will start checking this out and read up on it. Next part is how to integrated is this with my Plex media server or Plex’s services. More important how to deliver it outside my home network for say the car or on vacation via my laptop.
I upgraded my network last year but not have gotten around to setting up a VPN services with router(built in Open VPN) securing it with Radius and 802.1.x authentication to secure remote access properly. Will also need to setup some kind of DDNS as well.
It’s as available as any of your other Plex Media. You access it like any other library on your left tab. As for the car, you can use the Tidal app direct, or you can use PlexAmp (which is what I prefer.)
I don’t know a whole lot about running PMS through a VPN. From what I understand it’s a bit of a pain, but if you’re up for the challenge, then Tidal should work like any other part of your library locally or remotely.
Any idea if Tidal will work Auto for Android?
Tidal App direct or Plex amp can access music hosted by Tidal as well as music on my Plex server or have I gotten ahead of myself?
I think some people use it this way, but the functions are far more limited, I believe.
The Tidal app will only access the Tidal service.
If you go through Plex, you can access the Tidal library, your own library, or you can add stuff from the Tidal library to your own library and run it all together. It doesn’t download the tracks, rather seamlessly switches streams between your own stuff and their stuff. It’s pretty cool.
Yea it’s gonna be a bit of a pain even though I’m technically savvy but remote access into your network without properly securing is dicy and asking for trouble in the long run. It’s so much a risk VPN subscription applications like NORD or Express VPN will not support port forwarding which is pretty much necessary.
Very good!
I have yet to dig into it much having Amazon and to be quite honest there is less and less ■■■■ being put out I want to watch these days so when I taker a closer look it’s going to be a case of what’s not already in my 500+ media Library that’s there to watch.
How are they with older Hollywood Pre 70’s?
What is up with the need for the Tidabie Music converter at extra money? I’m assuming a discounted Plex or Tidable account when taken together and access to PlexAmp makes up for going with more expensive services at twice my Prime account?
Much too complicated. Sometimes I spend more time trying to decide what to watch than the time I spend watching. Between the free selections that Plex offers, the selections that my friends share with me from their Plex servers, and my own selections from my Plex server, I never run out of things to watch.
None of my family or friends are savy enough to run their own media server.
I understand that! Most of my family and friends are not either.
When the COVID pandemic closed the theaters, a few of my technical friends were willing to try something new. After a year of me sharing my content with them, they decided to give it a try and started sharing their content with me.
