Ok so I am trying to set up two Libraries for my Kids with only Kids stuff on them but there are a few files that i would like in my Library as well. The problem i am running into is when i search for things or watch something it shows up as two different files on the search or on the “On Deck” or "Continue Watching Sections. Is there any way to keep this from happening?
I guess the main challenge is, that you use two libraries for this and place the same movie in both? Plex registers movies per library. This means that you (who has access to both libraries) will see duplicates. The only way this would be solvable (i guess) would be, to keep them in one library, but make use of the “label” tag. Every user you create in Plex, can be limited/restricted to specific libraries, labels (ex. “Kids”) or ratings. This would on the other hand not limit your account to only specific kids movies - but all.
I use the following setup (libraries) and limit the users by library: Movies Movies \ Kids
I have access to everything - but the kids only have access to Movies \ Kids.
Sort the stuff you don’t want in your normal movie library
into the Kids’ movie library.
Make sure all the items have either a suitable ‘Age classification’ on them or the movies for the kiddies have a label that tags them ‘family friendly’.
Put a PIN on your user account.
That way the kids have to seek in 2 libraries for their stuff, but hey…
Alternative: use a different metadata agent for the kids’ library.
(‘edit’ library, ‘Advanced tab’, Agent [use e.g. ‘Plex Movie’ for yours and ‘TheMovieDatabase’ for the kids’])
