I have my libraries divided in to kids movies and non kids movies
but in then in kids movies, there are movies that I like to have my son watch, like the marvel movies or dc movies.
is there a way to have those movies appear in my kids library without having multiple copies of each movie in both libraries?
can I can just add a label and have movies that that label appear along my kids movies in the kids library?
You could use Symlinks to make it look like there is a second copy of the movie in the other location.
I’m not sure how symlinks work in Synology but I’m sure Google does.
Sorry for the bad info then. I never knew that.
I’ve been using NTFS Junctions in Windows with PMS for years with no issues.
I realize it’s not exactly the same thing but close.
When you setup a library you can assign more than 1 top-level folder.
In the example above I’ve pointed each of my exemplary 2 libraries to 2 folders:
the kids library is pointing to a folder with kids-only movies and a folder with movies for kids and non-kids
the non-kids library is pointing to a folder with non-kids only movies and a folder with movies for kids and non-kids
Therefore… 3 top-level folders in your file system:
Yes, by putting them in the non-kids library.
You should also set up a user for the kids and assign only the kids library to them.
You would then put a PIN on your own / admin account so the kids can’t swich to it.
the only thing is it messes up being able to create collections. because for some reason when I try to add al the 23 MCU movies into a collection it Is split up between my movie folder and the shared folder that they are all in.
I’m not sure I can follow you.
A collection is available in the library in which you created it.
If the MCU movies are in your “shared” folder that’s linked to both libraries (kids movies, general movies), you’ll indeed end up with 2 collections – one per library.
Your “shared” folder doesn’t have a library of its own – or it shouldn’t have a library of its own (maybe I’m misreading some part of your post).
is it normal for movies to appear twice? like if I search for Aladdin
it appears twice in the web app? and if I choose to play something from my apple tv, it asks me to choose the server to play from?
if Aladdin was placed in the shared movies folder, shouldn’t it only appear once when I do a search for it?
I believe there’s 2 ways of how Plex deals with search results in different libraries:
display 1 match per library with the library name below the poster and movie title (=your screenshot with “duplicate” posters)
display 1 match per movie with a reference that it appears in multiple libraries; clicking on the match will allow you to pick in which library you want to open/play it (this is e.g. how the search works on Plex for iOS)
It’ll show twice as it’s 2 separate listings in 2 separate libraries – no matter if both libraries point to the same folder or not. The difference in how it’s displayed is only about how Plex is visualizing those different matches (see above). If you only have access to one of the two libraries, only one search result will show.
Edit: added a clarification on why there’s 2 matches
