Duplicate Items after Moving Media Content to New Location

I recently moved my Music library from an external volume mounted at “/smb/itunes” to “/smb/music”. I followed the exact instructions listed here, step by step:

After finishing these steps and performing a library scan, every single album in my Music library is now duplicated, with one copy linked to the “itunes” share and the other linked to the “music” share. The folder structure within the two locations are 100% identical.

Does anyone know what might have caused this to happen, and what I can do to resolve? Happy to provide any detail that might be needed to troubleshoot. And as a last resort, hopefully I can simply delete the new location and everything will go back to “normal”?

some ideas:

  1. your library is still pointing to /smb/itunes/?
  2. you did not perform ... > Manage Library > Empty Trash after finishing the move?
  3. if you want both versions to remain visible but show as the same item… make sure you haven’t changed the library agent after you added some of your albums… if Plex matched an album with one agent and you’re adding it again while using a different agent, Plex will not recognize both albums as the same.
