@andrewd2 - not so much missed reading as not fully comprehending.
He posts a linux path. I’d no idea that we must literally get rid of the old in default install folders.
Yes, I saw overwrite, but thought that by adding it to the 3rd party plugins, it would automagically happen.
IMO, it should. But, meh.
@JamminR You can just put it in the plugin folder, but overwriting the old just allows you to not need to go change multiple things so you don’t actually have to use a second scraper for DVD order.
@JamminR : @AndrewD2 is correct – my plugin replaces the system plugin that ships with Plex Media Server, and should be installed in the system plugins folder, not the third-party plugins folder. Plex has, alas, not provided a more elegant mechanism for customizing the server in this way.
I am not seeing the new setting you mentioned after installing your updated version of the bundle.
I copied the TheTVDB.bundle-latest folder and its contents to “C:\Programs (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Resources\Plug-ins-24ffd60”, which was the most recently created/edited folder in Resources, then deleted the existing TheTVDB.bundle folder and renamed TheTVDB.bundle-latest to TheTVDB.bundle and restarted the Plex Media Server.
When I go to the server settings and look at my agents, I do not see any field for adding season ids or anything else of the sort in the settings for my TheTVDB agent.
C:\Programs (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Resources\Plug-ins-24ffd60
http://i.imgur.com/SgWpwMT.png is a screenshot of what I see. Any ideas/suggestions?
@aroth.khashar Are you sure you checked out the feature/dvd-order
branch? The latest
branch does not have the dvd-order modifications in it. It’s just the latest version of the code that ships with PMS.
Took some effort but finally got this working to fix Firefly. Thanks!

For anyone new to this issue and using Windows, I want to spell out how to use these plugins:
- Get DVDOrderAgent.bundle here: GitHub - HuggableSquare/DVDOrderAgent.bundle: plex metadata agent for putting shows in dvd order from thetvdb (use “clone or download” button).
—If you get the .zip file, there will be one superfluous containing folder. Remove “-master
” from the end of the deepest “DVDOrderAgentbundle-master” folder, then copy that folder into the plugins directory. On Windows, the plugins directory is here:%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins\
(as explained here)- Get PlexThemeMusic.bundle here: GitHub - HuggableSquare/PlexThemeMusic.bundle: modified version of PlexThemeMusic.bundle for use with TheTVDBdvdorder (again, use “clone or download” button).
—This zip file also includes a superfluous containing folder, and you must remove “-master
” from the unzipped folder, then rename the folder (per Dbent’s comment in this thread) to something likePlexThemeMusicDVDOrder.bundle
. Install it in the same plugins directory as before.- Restart Plex Media Server: “exit” using system tray icon, then run application again
- Navigate to the show you want to fix. Use the … menu on the left side to select “fix incorrect match.”
- Do not use auto-match. It just fails silently. (It looks like it should work, because you can select TVDBdvdorder from the drop-down, but that is misleading.)
- Instead, click Search Options. In the dialog box you get, set “Agent” to TVDBDVDorder, and set Show Name to the TVDB show number (per tlockyer above). Then hit “search.” This worked for me.
Thanks for this @bhagerty! Very helpful to have a relatively up-do-date explanation for a thread that is over 5 years old.
As with most everyone else, I came here because of Firefly. I’ve wanted a solution for this for years without knowing it had been here all along. I downloaded the bundle on page 14 (not the one above - wasn’t sure if they were the same). As of Nov 24, 2016, with @bhagerty’s instructions I got it to work ( I don’t care about theme music as I have that turned off - very annoying to me).
Would mention to newbies just finding this that they have to ensure that their media is numbered as per the DVD order for this to work. It won’t magically take media numbered via the air-date order and transmorgaphy them to the proper DVD order. A bit of a pain that we actually have to get the TVDB ID number to make this work, but still relatively easy.
NOW I have a ton of kids DVDs that I have never had ordered correctly and going to try to get them to FINALLY be properly indexed too!!! Yay!!!
My only fear is that this will somehow be undone in a future Plex update. I guess we’ll see.
…Dale
This seems to be broken in the latest Plex versions. Any ideas?
I can’t seem to get this to work. The plugin is installed and seems to have been loaded, because i can find a log file for it, but i don’t see it when i try to do a search and hit the ‘Search Options’ drop down. Any ideas?
EDIT: i was missing the Info.plist file. after i correctly installed the plugin, it does work!

Did you follow the instructions I included in my post directly above yours? Did you reboot the Plex Server after installing it? Still working fine for me and as you can see from dahmange’s post directly above this one appears to still be working just fine.

Yeah it’s not working in PlexPass 1.3.0.3059

I’m using it for Batman: The Animated Series, and I follow your instructions you posted but when I check the season the episodes are still mixed up. I’ll double check everything though to be sure
It seems the new server version has broken the order for episodes regardless of the agent used. They have come up with a new random order agent to keep us on our toes and completely confused.
A few posts I’ve found regarding the new method…

Ok. I haven’t installed the latest builds because I have a rule that I don’t update unless something is broken. If indeed the latest update breaks this that’s a perfect example of why I have this rule. Bummer. Well at least I finally finished Firefly for the first time in the correct order. Yay! Loved the series. What a bummer it was cancelled!
@DaleDietrich - indeed. Great show. In my top 5 series. If you haven’t, check out Serenity the movie too. (Wasn’t ‘great’, but was a decent continuation and at least finished 2-3 of some open story lines)
Speaking of which - long live Shepard. Ron Glass the actor recently died.
Back on topic - it would be nice if some day Plex were to build in DVD order option for those titles that have/need it for users that want it.
2/3rds done watching Serenity the Movie. I’m a dad of 2 young kids and only get about 30 min a night to watch stuff. Enjoying the movie too. QUESTION: Is the black guy chasing them in the movie the same guy they left floating in space in the final episode of the series?
Following here as having the same issue as @leelynds. PMS seems to be ignoring any sort order that it is told to use.
Thought I would post that there’s a chance there’s some recognition of a bug. at least this:
https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/248849/issue-with-plex-not-finding-correct-metadata
@OttoKerner said: There might be currently some issues with 3rd party agents. Nothing particular has been identified as the reason. Stay tuned.
No mention of the weird sort order you can get with the default agents or the fact you can lose all of your season posters and episode thumbnails with the default agent by adding an episode not yet in the TVDB though. Apparently that isn’t a bug.

Update: I just checked firefly for the first time ever since I confirmed it worked…and now it’s broken again. I am also guessing that it was the update that broke this. I’ll give your method a shot.
I dunno about your steps. I followed the steps provided in the earlier post’s in this thread and it worked with no need to download the thememusic bundle. Pretty nifty to see you created a work around though.
My Fitefly still works. I haven’t updated the server in a few weeks. Not going to update it until this bug is fixed or a new ‘must have’ feature like Collections, that is more important to me than DVD ordering, has been added.
