DVD Rip to plex library

Just purchased new WD my cloud pr2100.
I can not figure out how to add a dvd movie to my plex libray. Im about to go insane. Watched every youtube video and cant seem to figure out how to do this to a nas device. Every video I watch is way out dated i guess. If anyone has a current link to a video that would be great.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi LC

You need to download Handbrake, from the following URL:-

https://handbrake.fr/downloads.php

This utility is a MUST HAVE for all Plex users because it can convert most movie files into direct play mp4 files, it can convert your DVDs into playable files and it can make non-playable MP4 files into direct play playable ones.

I would also strongly urge you to watch the following YouTube tutorial video:-

This will show you how to convert DVDs into Plex playable files by using Handbrake.

Happy New Year and Happy Plexing.

PS. Direct Play files, in my post, are files that Plex can play directly without any type of convertion or transcoding and are usually of a higher display quality than files transcoded on the fly.

damn this looks like a pain, why don’t they just use vlc built-in features, it even does protected ones.

Yes, you can use Handbrake and WonderFox DVD Ripper to convert your movie to the format supported by Plex. I have tried these 2 tools, both work well. I hope this can help you.
