Here are some screenshots I am only recording 1 show but Plex shows 3 tuners in use yet 3 tuners are not in use … It appears that Plex thinks it is using 3 tuners.
So it looks like things are headed in the right direction or resolved with 1.9.0.x.
It did take me a reboot/delete/re-setup dvr to get everything working correctly, but I am watching three streams simultaneously without issue right now, so I’m feeling good about it. It also seems to be doing better with releasing the tuners after the live tv session/client app closes.
Can anyone confirm @fecaleagle 's findings? I’ll try it out tonight

I’m not sure whether the delete/re-add was necessary, because initially, after taking up the first two tuners, the third Live TV session did get allocated to the second Extend (a good sign), but the stream failed multiple times. I figured I’d restart the server and delete the DVR and re-add the tuners as a matter of course, after which everything did start working.
I just went ahead and started three simultaneous recordings, which looks good, so I think this one may finally be resolved.
I’m not seeing this behavior . . .I have 3 HDHR Primes and I cannot record more then 3 shows. I had a break in the schedule so I did the following
I’ll be dropping back to 1.6.1 later today when there is a break in the schedule

- Uninstalled 1.61
- Rebooted
- Installed 1.9.0
- Deleted the DVR
- Added the DVR
- Started 6 recordings and 4 worked but the others didn’t - reason 4 worked is the first started on the second tuner and not the first tuner - the second 3 started on the first tuner
- Rebooted cause of that odd behavior
*Tried to record 4 and it only recorded 3I’ll be dropping back to 1.6.1 later today when there is a break in the schedule
Yeah it is not working … I tested again yesterday and it failed. PLEXX DVR cannot be trusted if using multiple HDHomerun units … Version 1.9.0.4252 … good luck to those that think it is fixed when the fall season starts…

Fair enough. I take it as a definite step in the right direction that a third recording is distributed to my second HDHomeRun rather than outright failing. The three recordings across two Extends succeeded last night, as well as three concurrent Live TV sessions earlier in the day. For sure, this is not rocket science and it never should have been an issue for Plex in the first place, and it cerainly shouldn’t have been introduced as a regression in 1.7.x (especially given the HDHomeRun is basically the flagship tuner box for Plex DVR/Live TV), but I see it at least as an acknowledgement that there is an issue and an attempt was made to distribute tuner load amongst multiple devices in this release.
I’m not claiming that it’s perfect. It obviously isn’t on the basis of the findings above, but so far, it’s worked for me with three simultaneous streams across two HDHR devices on the only occasions I’ve attempted it since the initial reconfigure. I’ll try pushing it to four in a bit and see how it does.
Good thing I don’t watch any Fall TV, I guess. ![]()
Apparently, this is addressed in the next server release (1.9.3).
