I setup PMS DVR to record all of the Rugby World Cup 2023 (“Live: Rugby World Cup 2023”) airings and have quickly run into some issues with the library and naming of files.
*N.B. I’m transcoding my DVR files, during overnight maintenance periods, so the files are being changed from *.ts to .mkv. I know this will trigger PMS to re-look at the files and I think this is where things go wrong? I really do want/need to transcode these files as each recoding can be nearly 8gb so I’m actually able to save around 60% of disk space!
I don’t really mind the DVR entry in “Live TV” not linking to the recording, though it normally does with other shows. But today I found that the library entries for the files is now messed up. It thinks that certain recordings are the “same” episode. I can’t even remove the “2023-09-10 13 00 00” in the middle of the filename, as this then break the library and the entry no longer exists.
Here I’ve renamed the extension back to “.ts” and restarted PMS and told the library to re-scan. There are clearly 4 distinct files in the library folder:
There’s a few things here: (a) the background episode “name” now just states “Episode 09-10” for two different episodes. (b) The top most item, when I “get info”, it’s telling me it’s connected to two distinctly different files. (c) The last recording “Pool A: France v Uruguay” has not been through the transcoder yet
(d) you’ll note that the episode description is now empty for the problem recordings:
This is just to show what the DVR Schedule screen looks like. The Sat 9/9 episode has been deleted so is irrelevant here. These are three matches played on the same day:
I’m guessing all of this is a known thing? I did try and create a 2nd library to point at a copy of these files with the date/time removed from thefile name but I can’t “match” the TV Show as it doesn’t have anything matching “Live: Rugby World Cup 2023”
And don’t start me on PMS deciding a file is Progressive (scan) and not Interlaced! As that’s still a thing!!! ![]()
