It would be great to add chapter marks when deleting commercials and transcoding live recordings!
Call Comskip…
CALL "C:\Program Files (x86)\Comskip\comskip.exe" %1 --ini="C:\Program Files (x86)\Comskip\comskip.ini"
Convert and remux with FFMpeg…
CALL ffmpeg.exe -hide_banner -i "%~dpn1".ffmeta -hwaccel qsv -c:v mpeg2_qsv -f mpegts -i %1 -c:v h264_qsv -global_quality 22 -vf deinterlace_qsv -movflags +faststart -profile:v main -preset fast -level 40 -y "%~dpn1".mp4
Now this version uses QSV, but you can get the gist…
Isn’t this proposal identical to DVR should mark commercials, then automatically skip them ?
Similar, but not quite the same. That thread is asking to keep commercials in the file and mark them only. My thought here is to keep the commercial delete function intact - just mark where there deletions took place in the file when the file is processed.
What would be the gain from having the chapter markers there?
It would make it a lot easier to skip around or replay specific parts of recorded shows without overshooting the fast forward or rewind. Especially on longer programs like sports or award shows. No different conceptually than the chapter marks that come on DVD/Blu-ray TV shows.
