This goes hand and hand with the “New to Me” recording option in that it would require a database of all shows ever recorded. This feature would be very useful for failed recordings which are not uncommon with DVRs. Corrupt video streams and incorrect shows or episodes being recorded do to bad guide data are just a couple examples of why recordings “fail”.
