Hi,
Wanted to give beta feedback to the Plex team so they can fix before full release.
First: I love the feature and the UX is excellent! Great work and fixes a really important cord cutting gap! Keep at it!
Now to my bug/feedback.
When playing back a DVR recording it would freeze about every 30 seconds or so on both the playback clients I used. I would have to use the fast forward feature to skip forward and then it would start to play again for another 30 seconds or so. When I would skip back to before the freeze point it would freeze at the same frame each time. So I figured it was something with the way it was recorded and not the way it was playing. Both clients were playing direct and not transcoding during playing. Here are the server settings I had at the time:
- Running Mac OSX 10.12.4
- Plex server version 1.5.5.3634
- Playing on Web Player and on Fire TV 1st Gen.
- I recorded using HD HomeRun Connect.
- Beta server settings: convert video while recording “transcode”
I fixed the issue by changing back to “convert video while recording” setting to “off.”
The problem went away and plays back fine. If possible I’d prefer H.264 transcode for better client support and more efficient conversion, storage, and playback. The MPEG2 standard codec really works my CPU (50%) since it’s not a multi thread multi core supported format.
