It seems like the recent change to MKV container in DVR inctroduces one serious drawback: Subtitles are lost! Outside the US (or UK) it is quite common to have a separate track in the DVB stream that contains the subtitles for foreign films. These appear to be stripped away during the re-mux to MKV container.
You should therefore either allow storage in .ts container to preserve these, or convert them on-the-fly to PGS subs (for DVB subs) and SRT subs (for TTX subs). It cannot be an intentional action to remove these from the recodings… Please beware that some channels have both DVB subs and TTX subs.
Can it really be true that no one cares about this serious regression in functionality? It makes the DVR feature almost unusable for people that need subtitles on broadcasts…
@HeartWare42 It’s unbelievable that I’ve seen 4 or 5 posts complaining about the MKV files causing problems and I haven’t seen a single response (from Plex). For myself any version above 1.6.* all the recordings are corrupted. 1.6.0.3698 works fine though.
@imcpwn Yeah, I am a bit surprised, myself. Such an important feature (DVR support was the one reason I purchased a lifetime Plex Pass and an HDHomeRun tuner) and they make it unusable after a few months.
Do you know if there are any problems with installing a version 1.6 on top of my 1.7 to get back the previous functionality? Anything I should be aware of (my Plex Server is running on a Synology NAS, if that has any bearing on the matter).
Plex DVR is beta and still being developed. Plex has already said in threads they are working on the CC issue. They know it is less then optimal now. If you don’t wan’t live tv go back to 1.6. The new transcoder in 1.7.x is needed for live tv and ironically does store the CC but apparently many pieces of software have trouble reading them.
You may want to do a few searches to find the details on it.

And what about the DVB and TTX subs issue? Have not seen anything from anyone even acknowledging that there is an issue that needs to be solved.

I will - as soon as I can get confirmation that there shouldn’t be any issues in doing so… Can I safely install v1.6.1 on top of my 1.7.x without any (known) issues?

I don’t care about CC, as we don’t use those in Europe. I care about DVB subs and TTX subs. Are they stored? If so - how do I extract them?
