I use the plex DVR to record from a HDHomeRun (with a cablecard from COX). But I am seeing more glitches/corruption/artifacts as of late. What is causing it, how can I fix it? When we watch live TV with the cable box at the TV, we don’t have any issues.
The cause is very likely signal dropouts. Either because the signal is too low or it has a lot of interference on it.
Low signal:
In my experience, the HDHomerun needs a stronger signal than a regular TV set.
(probably because it has to feed 2, 4 or even 6 tuners at once, depending on the actual model)
You may have to use an antenna booster or the like.
Interference: can be caused by a multitude of sources.
Either the antenna has changed in some way (moved by storm or damaged by birds)
or the coax cable has been damaged
or some new electrical device has been added in the vicinity which causes interference.
Particularly finding the latter can be very difficult.
Start by using the regular TV app from Silicon Dust and keep an eye on the signal strength and Signal quality indicators.
You can see these also when you open the internal web page on the HDhomerun device (“Tuner status”), while Plex is playing live tv or is doing a recording.

Actually signal and symbol quality is more important than signal strength.
It is cable TV so no antenna. No cable changes. No equipment rearrange. I do have a line amplifier from the cable company installed many years ago.
My status shows 100% quality and 100% signal.

Then I have unfortunately no other idea than interference by other electric devices and/or damaged cables (shielding in particular).
