So, overall my Dell rack server does great, in home and out. I have a bunch of Tivos and Managed users that are used on my local network, and a variety of shared users outside the house. I recently got a DVR (HDHomeRun) and would like to make local recordings (mainly the News) available to my users. I have a Plex Pass.
I have created a “Local TV” folder, and shared it with both classes of users. I have created recordings, and my admin users can view these recordings from both apps and local/offsite. NONE of my other users (sharing or home) can view the recordings, in any app.
I have checked the folder permissions (at the linux level) and made them 777 from the TV folder down to the show files, and still they are not visible, it just says “There are no items in this library”. I’ve double checked that this Local TV library is shared with the users. What else coudl be causing this?
UPDATE 1: I just confirmed that home users can view live TV and schedule recordings.
UPDATE 2: I just confirmed that saving the recordings the my regular “TV Shows” library doesn’t help, even though the remote users can see other content in TV Shows.
Update 3: So, my external “Sharing” users can see recordings my non-admin “Home” users make, just not those scheduled by the admin account.
Update 4: Ok, I think I understand what is doing, but I’m not sure why. It appears that any “Show” that it has good TVDB info on (2 Broke Girls, Blue Bloods, etc.), show up for my guest (EDIT: same for my home users, the only ID that can see the local News recordings is the admin account - actually scratch that, the only home users that can see the content are the ones with PIN codes… converted a user to have PIN, but it didn’t bring in the recordings… will try recording a new News show and see if, now that this user has a PIN, they’ll be able to see it…), but if it’s the local News, it does not. I’m not sure why that matters, but that is the symptom.
Update 5: Confirmed, after adding a PIN to a local user who was not seeing local News, upon the next recording those News shows popped into the Local Recordings library, and stayed after I removed the PIN. Other local users without PIN still don’t see these News recordings.
Update 6: Ok, so it appears that anything that doesn’t have a Season and Episdode to link to the TVDB doesn’t share outside of my home users, regardless of PIN, that was a coincidence (I think).
