Current options: New or New and Repeat
need the options to be allow for no duplicates.
I WANT to record reruns so they will not be first runs, but I want to make sure that I only record ONE of each episode that is being rerun. So there needs to be a setting that will not record two of the same episode.
Seriously, even Tablo has THIS figured out.
davidha4990,
FWIW, my experience is that one can not record duplicates even when one wants to so do.
IMO, it is a fundamental PMS design flaw that one can not record duplicates.
I personally think the design demonstrates little understanding of DVR basic use. Aside from the Advanced recording option to replace lower resolution items (which I’ve never found of any practical value whatsoever as the 11 HD OTA channels of the 95 channels we receive have never played the any of the same shows, nor movies that we’ve recorded from the SD channels), the only way that I can re-record any OTA Live TV show or movie is to first completely delete it.
It is just stupid, shallow developer arrogance that one should have have to delete the recording one has, hoping a better quality recording may be possible in the future.
There are many reasons one would like to record duplicates without having to first throw away what one has, including, but not limited to:
-
If one fails to initiate recording an OTA Live TV show or movie before it begin, the best one can achieve is a partial recording.
-
A recording quality may be poor. (I live in a suburban setting wherein my SiliconDust turner receives 95 OTA broadcast channels from 3 cities in good weather. Unfortunately, heavy rain and or strong wind blowing very tall trees sometimes cause very substantial signal degradation to the point that even the most powerful transmissions become unwatchable for many minutes or hours.)
-
A particular airing may have frequent disruptions (eg, PBS fundraising).
I actually agree and restate that there needs to be a “duplicate” option so that we can specifically set whether or not duplicates are recorded or not.
again, I believe that TABLO has this correct (I might be remembering incorrectly though)
