DVR Recordings have random skips and other issues

I’ve had Plex up and running for a week in recording content from an HDHomeRun Prime (3 tuners). Our use is exclusively as a DVR (no live channel watching). Most of the time three different shows are being recorded and commercials are being removed. However, when watching recorded shows, we’ve had streaming issues: buffering, random skipping and pixelation, audio track misalignment. etc. And, in actuality I’ve downloaded a given show’s TS file, opened it up locally on my machine and played it, and most of the same issues were present in the recorded content. Overall it’s a poor experience and my wife is wanting to give up in believing all the hype surrounding Plex. My initial thought is that we’re demanding too much of our Nvidia Shield server (see all hardware specs below). Should I turn off commercial removal since its adding additional stress to the Shield server? Anyone else having success with my hardware set-up for recording 3+ simultaneous channels while removing commercials? Any guidance on what I can do? Should I get different hardware for these use requirements? I’m open to any feedback. Much appreciated.

You may be experiencing signal issues. While recording (or watching a live stream) go to the Tuner Status page of your HDHR in a web browser (http://ip.address.of.hdhr/tuners.html). See which tuner is showing the channel you’re curious about then click on the link for that tuner.

Check your Signal Strength as well as your Signal Quality values. As you can see on mine for this channel I have 100% strength but 95% quality. In the case of this channel even that slight drop below 100% can cause issues with pixelation/artifacting and if it drops below that by too much you’ll start having the skips and audio sync issues you’re experiencing in recordings.

Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate it. I just checked my Tuner status and they are all at 100%, including the channels where the recording is an issue. Furthermore, when I live stream the channel through Plex, there are no issues. It is definitely related to recording shows.
