DVR Recordings Not Finishing

I’m running on Mac OS with Homerun Extend (latest firmware) and have been having all the problems mentioned - truncated recordings, recordings stuck in processing etc. I haven’t had a successful recording in months. I upgraded to 1.9x when it became available and saw no improvement whatsoever. I then took the plunge as others have suggested, and did a complete reinstallation, following the steps in the help article referenced by others. I am happy to say, that since yesterday when I did the reinstall, all my recordings have completed successfully and with no processing lag. As far as I can tell, everything is working perfectly (knock on wood). I am certain the only thing that changed was the reinstallation, so I suspect there must be something in the old code causing the problem. I’ll continue to monitor and let everyone know if things go south. I haven’t tried live TV yet, so we’ll see if that breaks it.

Are you running 1.9 or you downgraded to an older version?

Still running 1.9

Sooo… I was watching this thread with interest, and really hoping not to have to do a reinstall.

Anyway, today I bit the bullet and did a reinstall and removed all remnants of the old version. Did a clean install of 1.9 and now my recordings seem to be finishing ok! Only tried a couple so far, but fingers crossed!

Yay!

EDIT: Spoke too soon… recording just jumped to 100% circa 20 mins into a 60min programme, and triggered the post processing script I had added after the first successful recordings. Don’t think it’s anything to do with the script being added.

I also upgraded to 1.9 and so far recordings seem to be working pretty well. I do have some failures with transcoder errors here and there but overall everything appears to be working fine. I’ve been on 1.9 for several days with maybe 90-95% success.

Side Note: I did a manual upgrade (downloaded the installer and ran manually) from 1.6.1

1.9 fixed nothing for me recording 2 atm with 4 active not locked up yet but just a matter of time since its not killing the tuners all the time. if someone has a better dvr program and a link to uk free view guide info pm me plz. since not one staff member has bothered to post on any of these threads.

If you use iOS then https://getchannels.com. Works great!

windows 10 unfortunately I’m open to Linux solutions though

Well… after a reboot everything appears to be working ok. I must admit I have every appendage crossed.

Just hope (no, NEED) this to work!

1.9.1 fixes a transcoding error but I don’t think it is dvr related

Could be related if it’s a transcoder error that is causing the issue. Maybe not if it’s a tuner issue. Although, it does seem like there are a number of different tuners reporting the same issue. The one common denominator is Plex itself, which might point to the transcoder. Here’s hoping.

Hopefully they track this down, it is completely broken right now. I cannot record anything on NBC on any Plex Server newer than 1.6.1. Also, my Agenda view is populated with old recordings that apparently never finished. Not sure how to clear that out.

Also, if anyone else uses Unraid, you can set your version to 1.6.1.3722-4955e31cf in the Docker settings and it will auto downgrade.

So, until this thread verifies a fix, I’m staying with 1.6.1.

Yes, Plex is aware of this. I’ve seen posts from a volunteer in other discussions about this problem:

If you can repeat the issue and provide them with logs, that could help them track the problem down.

Bummer… v1.9.1 just failed on me. Tuner has bailed, but plex says it’s still recording. Sigh.

Ubuntu Server 16.04, Docker/Plex-Pass, Intel Core i3-6320, 32GB RAM, docker running on SSD w/160GB free.

Logs attached.

I’m finding that my server (PMS, not the hardware) needs restarting every few days to fix the stuck tuner issue or when it just stops responding entirely. When restarted, it removes most or all of the stuck or failed recordings from the agenda. I’m on 1.8.4.4249, though I’m about to push the update to 1.9.1.x.

if your using hdhomeruns uninstall and install 1.6.1 only working version but only works with homeruns

I finally got around to uninstalling and dropping back to 1.6.1, however, now Live TV & DVR are no longer an option for me on the server settings page!

This seems inconsistent with what others are reporting. Any ideas here?

Update: All good. Restarted and reloaded and it shows as “DVR (Beta)” now.

Live TV was not added until 1.7.2. Others are just mentioning that the last version to successfully record and utilize all tuners with multiple HDHR devices configured in the DVR was 1.6.1. So if you drop back to 1.6.1 you will not have Live TV. If Live TV is important to you then I would not suggest going to that version.

@DaveBinM

Here are more logs that I pulled down while it is in the middle of recording a show. So as you can see from the screenshot below, the DVR Not Recording issue started with the 9/23 11pm Simpsons recording and persisted with and through at least the 9/24 9am This Week with George Stephanopolos.

I also pasted a screenshot on the TV Recording .grab folder and attached the contents. As you can tell the 11pm Simpsons recording very early in the recording process as it only has 5 MB.

If it helps, here is the codec information for the failed 9/23 11pm Simpsons recording.

@DaveBinM thanks for working on this and good luck

fresh install did not fix it for me

OK, so, not sure if this is a data point or not, however I have been noticing that my local NBC affiliate has been the one channel that has been causing me issues with recording hangs. I did a re-scan of channels in the DVR setup and suddenly, my local NBC HD affiliate is no longer in the list of channels. I know it still exists, because previously I was able to tune to it. However, now it’s completely gone. I went into the HDHomeRun firmware web UI and tried scanning there. Once again, it’s no longer detected. Seems like a strong correlation for why it may not be working. Hopefully this is helpful to someone with better knowledge of the situation.

Also, I should note, I hadn’t updated my HDHomeRun firmware since 2016, so I finally did that. Anyway, for now, looks like I won’t be recording anything on NBC (I won’t even bother with SD). :frowning:

EDIT: Missing my local ABC HD channel as well after the re-scan. Very odd.

EDIT2: Re-scanned and the missing channels are back but when I manually tune to those channels through the HDHomeRun Win10 app (or the VLC stream) they are heavily corrupted. I rebooted my HDHomeRun Prime and while the stream on those channels has improved, there is still a fair amount of corruption in the video. All of my other HD channels are totally fine. The plot thickens.

Since doing the complete reinstall, everything ran great for a week or so. I did have one ABC news recording that failed but everything else continued to record and complete successfully. Then a couple days ago, all my recordings started getting hung up and I finally had to reboot. Since rebooting, it appears to be recording successfully again, which I guess is an improvement over 1.8x. But it looks like it’s going to start crashing periodically until this gets fixed. I have been on the 1.9x update since they released the patch (MacOS, HDHomerun Extend with update firmware).
