After the recording was supposed to end I used the HDHomeRun app and made sure I could watch NBC there.
In the “grab” folder I see a *.ts file for the show, but it is only 379.4MB (Small for a 1 hour HD show). I also notice there are 2 active transcode sessions, though there is nothing that should be recording now and no other activity on the system.
Once I killed the active transcode sessions there was a flurry of activity and then the “Today Show” showed up under “Recently Added Television”. When I looked at the details of the show, it is only 50 minutes long.
I do not have any post processing scripts at this time.
Looking at the file now in the TV folder on disk, it shows a date modified of “Today, 6:51 AM”. If the recording had completed successfully I would have expected this to be 7:00 AM.
When I try to play the file it plays for roughly 3 minutes and 10 seconds and then the video freezes while the audio continues to play for some time, but the video never starts playing again. While I haven’t listened to the rest of the show, I assume it will end about the 50 minute mark. If I try to fast forward through the show, the Plex Media Player closes.
I have tried this on IOS, TVOS, Plex Web and the show stops at the same 3:10 second mark but then gives me an error of “An error occurred trying to play “episode 90-19”. shaka3016 (Media)”.
I’ve attached the logs from this morning. Please let me know if there is anything else I can provide or if you would like me to reproduce this issue.
So I have upgraded to 9.1 and I still see this issue. If I only have 1 recording scheduled and nothing directly following it or overlapping, the recording seems to work.
You can see in the screenshot that Flags of our Fathers recorded fine from 2:30-5:00 yesterday. Then from 9-10 Salvation was supposed to record but is stuck at 100% AND still Recording.
From there the rest of the recordings are hung at the Recording - 100% complete.
If I look in the .grab folder, Salvation is still in there with a 4.5GB file. Seinfeld is in there as well with a 1.89GB file, but there is nothing for BigBang Theory which started at the same time as Seinfeld, 10:00pm.
@psykix Thanks. I’ve been following several of those threads as well. Just wanted to track my own set of issues and troubleshooting steps I have been taking.
My next step is to purchase a new antenna to see if a stronger single helps any.
I also may have a 2nd system in a few weeks that I can build a second PMS and have it run on a different version to see if there are any differences.
After 3 straight successful recording I thought I had figured out a pattern. but I was wrong. I tried to record Orville from 8-9 central but that only recorded 8 minutes of the show. There was no other recording going on at this time. no other activity at all.

It’s not your antenna… I downgraded to PMS 1.6.1 and everything is now recording normally (no other changes in my set up).

Logs attached.
I was hoping to find a Mac user that “solved” the stalled recording issue by completely deleting and reinstalling PMS (Windows users seem to have success with that).
From I read here and on other threads you have tried this, but the problem seems to have reappeared. Am I correct?

don’t think its signal I pick up the same stations over 100 miles away (uk Freeview) Lots of towers sending pretty much the same channels 890+ total channels for 140ish video and 30 radio channels repeated (mostly crap). I have picked the strongest ones. ITV1 2 3 and 4 seem to be my biggest offenders as they change resolution all the time from commercial in hd to program in sd and vice versa. sometimes just get a audio sync issue and it chugs on. if you have a WinTV card use this software to see if you are having signal issues. Hauppauge | Digital Signal Monitor
on this fresh install I only have this pc doing recording. I setup my shield TV to serve the comskiped files so see if that helps as well.
I had no luck with having 2 or 3 tuners installed. Once I removed the Extend and only had the Connect setup. I have been able to record several shows now without an issue. I am going to switch to the Extend only this evening and try again just to make sure there are no issues with it specifically (I don’t expect any).
I did upgrade to 1.9.2 today, so also testing that out.
wish you luck, but from what I am seeing transcoder is still doing the chunked crap with building several thousand little video segements and then assembling the main video, which locks the tuners and doesn’t release properly, 30+minutes after recording still see tuner locked when it should be avaialble and ts file is still building . Really wish Plex guys would just give us the option of building single TS file like 1.6.1 does vs this chunked mode crap cause of Live tv , (from what I understand this change was done for live TV support but sucks the life out of your nas and disk array) it also doesn’t work well with some equipment , it looks like its a problem based on processor resources and only testing this chunked mode logic on some Super fast cpu’s and not equipment that people actually use, Atom,Arm processors seem to get killed with this.
Just give us the option to support Live TV or NOT and Use old single file recording mode vs chunked and I bet all the issues would be resolved for most people.

Ding…ding…ding…you win the prize. I think removing the extra device (extra meaning more than one) is a step in the right direction. The currently released version does not work with multiple devices. You have to go back to 1.6.1 to successfully use multiple devices. Multiple device support became broken somewhere along the way. Until it is documented in the release notes that it is fixed, running with only one device (regardless of how man devices you need) is a better way to proceed. You are just beating your head against the wall with problems that you aren’t going to solve without code changes by using multiple devices.
Well, I had been working fine for several days with only the Extend added to the DVR. However, last night / this morning I have NOVA get to the same state. Stuck at 100% and 2 transcoding sessions going, when there is no activity.
Now, the interesting thing about this is the next recording worked.
In the screen shot below you see that NOVA is still hung, but the “Today” show worked. (Which means my wife is not made at me).
So this is progress of some sort right? Right? No really, right?
Here’s hoping that 1.9.3 comes out soon and fixes the problems with the Tuners.
Hey guys, we’re well aware of this annoying issue and are investigating it. I experience this issue as well from time-to-time. I’ll provide more details and an update once I have something to share. Thanks for hanging in there.
I’m running 1.9.3 with HdHomeRuns and had this happen to me last night. It’s possibly due to signal corruption, but the root cause has not yet been nailed down.
I found a fix and its not using plex as the dvr, zero issues now I have switched to npvr to do my recording and plex can do the file serving wasted 2+ months trying all types of work around. I’m pretty sure its the stitching a 1 second file with signal glitch in it rather than it being a single file like in 1.6.1. npvr use a single file and its not failed me once in the two weeks I have been using it since I gave up.
