This really needs to be fixed. I am running the current lastest 1.15.1.791.
Transcorder setting, x264 fast and use hardware acceleration enabled.
I have gone over these settings are tried super fast to slower but the same problem it just seems to take alot longer.
The Transcoder doesn’t seem to use h264 at all when recording TV. All files come out at .TS files.
I record a 2 hour tv show every day and every day its 30GB TS file and i am left with thinking WTF. Playing with each of these settings makes little to no difference, The transcoder isn’t using h264 when recording a show. When i run media info on the TS file it says: MPEG-TS, so i have no idea what the heck the Transcoder has been doing.
So I thought i would try run the optimizer on the 2 hour 30GB show, when it is running the transcoder is using the GPU 20% GREAT converting says 5-6x (speed I guess) So that means the transcoder can use the GPU without issues so it’s not an nvidia gpu software issue.
My findings are:
Recording live shows transcoder doesn’t use GPU even tho its enabled under DRV/Device settings/convert video while recording. The transcoder is still transcoding after the show is finished and when the file is saved its a extremely large TS file not encoded in h264 but MPEG-TS.
Which leaves me with having to look at other ways to then re-encode the show using handbrake or other software like other people have pointed out in other posts.
The thing is, this should just work end of story.
It should just record a show save as h264 like its meant to. With the number of people having this large file issue surely something can be done.
I don’t want to use another product to do what plex should do in the first place and all the cpu time/power it uses to record a show I don’t want to then have to waste power re-encoding one show twice because of the plex transcode issue.
Plex transcoder 32bit.exe when recording a live show no GPU and writes file as large MPEG-TS.
Plex transcoder 32bit.exe when running optimize show task uses GPU and writes in h264.
So given the Plex transcoder 32bit.exe can do what its meant to do, it must be a config file problem?
HELP.
