Continuing the discussion from Plex Fireside in the Forums:
Why DVR groups are already available for Plex Live Channels, but not available for Local/Personal channels? This is a long time requested BASIC feature. Another feature needed is to play directly m3U8 links, not yet possible (only m3u).
Even Plex Pass features are not enough for DVR users requirements.
Thanks @Allzamerica for the questions. The groupings are available for Plex Live Channels because we have context and metadata for the channels we provide like content type and genre that allow us to group them like that. If we were to create a feature for local channels then we would have to create a UI to build and manage these groups which isn’t something that we currently have plans to do.
I will have to claim ignorance as to why we support m3u but not m3U8. A quick search shows that besides the 8 bit encoding, there may be different standards involved. I could hazard a wild guess but I would probably be wrong. What I would suggest here is to check the Feature Suggestions area of the forum and see if a request for m3U8 exists there already or feel free to create one as that is a good way to help get it on the radar for additional review.
