NFL Week 11 and this still isn’t fixed. This is incredibly aggravating, since I paid for a lifetime Plex pass for Live TV/DVR and hardware transcoding. I got gigabit fiber internet 18 months ago, so I don’t really use the hardware transcoding much anymore. If I had a monthly Plex pass subscription, I would cancel it over this. On one hand, I feel ripped off by Plex after being initially very excited about what they were offering and wanting to support them. On the other hand, I can honestly say they will never get another cent from me. The continuous and ongoing issues with the Android clients reflects incredibly poorly on the leadership at Plex.
Can anyone recommend a better live TV DVR for Google TV w/ Chromecast?
Clearly Plex isn’t doing ■■■■ about fixing their problems.
Plex, you really need to explain how the idea of “Live TV/DVR Included With Plex Pass” is not a scam.
I wish watch from start was the only issue - I can’t watch more than 30 mins of liveTV without having to stop and restart the stream. I am now using the HDhomerun app on nvidia shield when I watch live and don’t need to timeshift.
Emby for Android/Chromecast. You’d have to pay $5 for a month to try it out. Flawless for me.
Emby is currently having a “Cyber Weekend” sale, $99 for a lifetime license. They don’t have too many sales (I think the last one was this time last year), so it might be a good time to save a few bucks. I purchased one last year and it’s been more than worth it because their software actually works as advertised and has been rock solid.
This problem actually started in July of 2018 over three years ago when I purchased a lifetime license. The thread is located here: Start Watching Recording in Progress from Beginning(Failing) - #1089 by philly4. Plex closed the thread because it was so old, but don’t be lead to believe that this is a new problem. This is a very old problem that they are unable to fix. Don’t hold your breath, if you want a TV system that always works, try Channels DVR.
Yea, use channels dvr OR buy a cheap Roku device where this feature actually works.
In fact the Plex for Roku app is working too good.
4 weeks since my last post here. Still no fix, and still no response from Plex.
I’m happy to keep coming back here to post, if only just to bump this thread and keep it alive to highlight how Plex is aware of these issues and willfully ignores them.
Please can we have an update @elan ? Only five sleeps to Christmas and we have been asking for it to be fixed since March!
9 months have now passed and still broken in the latest episode of this sad tale.

Please don’t state things like this which have no basis in fact.
Over 6 months have passed… Now am I allowed to state how it’s painfully obvious that Plex couldn’t care less about their Android users?
Android client is soooooooooooooooo so so bad…
Roku for the win!
I got a shield because a few years ago Plex’s AndroidTV app was the best one based on other users reports. We can’t keep switching devices based on which app has the least bugs at the time. Honestly if plex is too stretched thin and can’t support all devices, they should partner with a hw manufacturer, launch their own client and make sure they fully support it. (Like back in the SageTV days)
I have an Android client too but like a good tech nerd I use what works. For $40 you can ease the frustration like other people have.
Unfortunately that isn’t the case anymore so one could figure something else out right? Or suffer, who cares.
Can’t keep switching devices but Plex should make their own and then everyone switch… right makes PERFECT sense!!!
If you know its a device they will continue to focus on then I think it makes sense. Im not about to buy a few rokus to then see them stop putting effort into it and then need to get an apple tv for every TV 2 years later. Plex can’t seem to support all the platforms they got into and there seems to be now way of currently predicting their development focus
Plex is divided up into teams of developers. The Roku team is very pro-active. @ljunkie does a very good job on the Roku!
How is live tv performance? Mainly can it direct stream mpeg2 without transcoding and is fast forward/rewind as snappy as androidtv?
I use the Streaming Stick+ and it has mpeg2 support but you must toggle it on in Plex settings. FF/RW is pretty good as far as I can tell.
I’m sure the Shield is significantly more powerful compared to a stick but the main thing here is having a backup device that has decent functionality and I have found that in mid grade Roku devices.
