Lol, yea no thanks. I have rokus too, but I’ll stick with other options (ie: other software) that don’t require me to downgrade my hardware, or always have to keep additional hardware as a backup to switch to every few weeks because plex doesn’t believe in QA.
Then perhaps Plex isn’t for you at all so I’m not sure why you are even here. You say you don’t want to keep additional hardware but then say you already have Roku. This makes absolutely no sense. Keeping additional hardware and fiddling with things is the definition of hacking verbatim, something all tech people do.
Maybe if people wern’t so negative toward the Plex developers and everyone stops throwing tantrums over problems that aren’t even close to deal breaking then they might own up to their mistakes but why would they now?

I’m here because I paid money for this, so I will continue to express my opinion as a paid customer. I’ll gladly leave and never post again as soon as I get a refund. ![]()
Likewise, if you’re so happy with your Roku then I’m not sure why you’re even here trying to convince people that the issues they’re experiencing with other platforms aren’t real.
You say you don’t want to keep additional hardware but then say you already have Roku. This makes absolutely no sense.
I have a $30 Roku that I keep in my backpack for traveling. I’m not going to downgrade my Shield in my livingroom to one though. It’s like having a spare tire for your car. Yea, if something happens to the real one then you’re going to be happy that you have that spare. You’re not going to drive on that spare tire for long though, assuming you’re at least half-way intelligent.

“Hacking” this system should involve adding new features or otherwise figuring out cool ways to use it, and I enjoy that kind of stuff very much. However, I do not enjoy having to fiddle with my streaming box every few weeks because there’s a new bug that’s preventing my enjoyment and preventing me from using the system as intended (and advertised). If I break something with my “hacking” then that’s on me, but it’s quite different when I’m having to hack in a new fix every few weeks.

Maybe if Plex wasn’t pawning off broken half-working software then people would have a better attitude. Maybe if Plex actually acknowledged bugs and issues, and made a more transparent effort to fix them then people would have a better attitude.
Also, if you paid attention, you’d see I’ve never blamed the developers. It’s the higher ups here like @elan who are responsible for the pitiful state that Plex’s live TV has been in for years now.
- When my TV stops and freezes every 30 minutes, that’s deal breaking.
- When I can’t pause my DVR for more than 3 minutes without it crashing, that’s deal breaking.
- When my DVR can’t record even close to consistently at the times it’s scheduled, that’s deal breaking.
- When I can’t start a football game without “accidentally” seeing the score because software can’t tell the difference between the beginning and live, that’s deal breaking.
- When every other show is just a black screen with audio in the background, that’s deal breaking.
- When a company consistently releases new versions that just break more than they fix, that’s deal breaking.
I’m glad that you’re happy dealing with constant bs like this, but at the end of the day I just want the software that I paid for to work as it was advertised. This isn’t some open source software that people should just be grateful to have. As a paying customer, I expect the software to at least reasonably work as advertised, and Plex hasn’t been able to deliver that in years.
I don’t deal with anything you’re saying because I use a platform that is supported better.
That’s great for you but there are a lot of android users that are not looking to buy other equipment, particularly if they have android for a reason that does not involve Plex. Roku support might be great now but that will last exactly as long as the team is not diverted to some other priority resulting in a degrading platform.
I definitely don’t want to be switching hardware all the time because of Plex’s ineptness. So, instead of backup hardware, I opt for backup software instead (mostly of the free kind). Jellyfin and NextPVR are great alternatives for me. But, like CodeCat5, I would really prefer that Plex put some effort into fixing the long standing problems with Android specifically and Live TV/DVR in general. Live TV/DVR is not even working properly in the Web client right now and for a lot of users, that’s supposed to be the backup that they rely on when their specific platform client is not working. That leaves users with no options at all other than to find other software or hardware. In other words, Plex is failing to meet the most basic of user needs.
Honestly, you’re commenting on an android specific post and your posts really seem to have the “mine works better than yours … na na na na na na” sort of tone that is not especially helpful.
Live TV & DVR works on the web client for me on two different servers using two different tuners. Sounds like user error to me.
So you can use the progress bar to seek live tv on the web client? That’s a commonly reported problem. I have Windows Server (fresh Plex install) and the problem happens in every browser. I’m a very experienced Plex user and have been through all the ups and downs of Live TV/DVR. The general smug superior tone of your posts seems to be a recurring thing and it is not appreciated.
Yes, seeking already streamed Live TV in the web client works for me.
There is no superior tone to my posts. I’m telling you what works for me. But you’re the very experienced Plex user which I never claimed to be.
Seriously, if you’re so annoyed about “Watch from start” then that’s on you. I simply say this works on Roku so if it’s THAT important there is a simple cheap workaround. You don’t like that - it’s on you.
I for one switched to Roku from Android for the very fact that I paid for my Plex Pass and will do what’s needed to have an enjoyable experience. It’s really that simple. On the up and up the Roku developer is VERY pro-active and has listened to my suggestions more than a handful of times. The Android devs have NEVER done this. I have my Android devices waiting none the less just like everyone else.
Web client has the bug.
Agreed, web client buggy too.
Did anyone else get the latest blog email listing platform updates for roku, iOS, apple tv… but again nothing android tv?
As an IT person you must know that/why Roku devices must “phone home” constantly, right? Aren’t you at all concerned about just what it gathers? Found this out after setting up a PiHole on my router, found this link Roku TCL TV making too many calls to scribe.logs.r... - Roku Community
Roku is now unplugged.
Also here’s a quote from the ‘Plexcerpts’ I received today “we were able to grow our team in new and exciting ways and expand our team of developers and designers to make the Plex experience sparkle across all of our apps.” — Keith Valory, CEO
Plex’s Android app is about as sparkling as watching your house burn to the ground…
If you don’t want personalized ad’s and statistical data sent back to Roku then block it. Simple. There is no real harm here. Welcome to the internet.
Android does the same thing.
Oh and so does Plex.
I did. Was going to say something about it. Kinda telling, aint it?
I do have to say my CCWGTV has gotten a bit better after the last update. But the bar is pretty low at this point.
Careful they will be closing this thread soon, saying it’s gone off topic,
Happy Christmas everyone, even scrooge aka @elan
DVR - Watch From Start - Why doesn’t it work on Android TV clients?
IS that on topic enough?
Why doesn’t Plex even respond…
Happy Festivus
It used to be the other way around. Plex on Roku very bad and Plex on Android was for the win. I’m not going to reinvest in new equipment. Nvidia shield is still the best media streamer out there. Plex just needs to fix this issue.
Don’t need to try and convince me on your position. I don’t care. I don’t work for Plex so you’re preaching to the wrong person.
Ditto.
You’re here really fast for someone who doesn’t even use Plex anymore lol.
@elan and @sixones got back to me last night. This will be fixed by the first of the year.
I did?
