You do know March was 5 months ago! Only you talk about it like it’s only just happened.
A regression like this should not take this long to identify and fix by any competent developer who considered it a priority. It appears when core functionality breaks it’s not given the priority most customers would expect. Over the same period plenty of developer time has been available to launch new functionality such as redesigning the home screen or developing a brand new HTPC app.
In my opinion live TV is the most neediest of all Plex’s features and requires the most Man/Woman power from Plex employees. With that being said when they do fix this they really need to lock the core features ( Matrix/coding) of the live TV server and client side so that they don’t get changed by one employee. This way changes must go under rigorous testing by multiple employees. If this is possible this would prevent things like this from happening in the future.
Yes. Lets fix Live TV once and for all and then lock the code from merges. The Android client is still far from perfect for Live TV… I have a few problems I haven’t reported yet and the Roku is not working the way it should either.
For example on Android a session will completely disappear from the dashboard while playing Live TV and leave the client on the buffer circle without timeout.
The android client should buffer more of the stream before playing because it can get choppy at the beginning for quite a while sometimes.
Scrolling through the guide on Android is extremely slow.
I also believe PMS is abnormally dropping remote Live TV streams but at the same time VLC continues to play the stream normally. I’ll leave that for another thread… get ready Plex, it’s coming.
Plex software dev practices definitely need some help. I don’t understand how regressions like what we see don’t get caught before releases are pushed. Android TV seems like its far worse in this matter than other platforms, but I have limited personal experience here.
But I agree that LiveTV/ DVR must be rock solid - the family needs here demand high reliability. The upcoming Olympics will no doubt generate a whole slew of new posts.
So far, staying on an ancient version of the client has worked for me, though I do get audio sync issues after doing skips at times.
At some point I’ll probably look at alternatives if the quality doesn’t improve, but it’s stable enough in my configuration that I don’t have to hurry.
Long term though, plex corporate management should be really concerned about these problems. Unless their board is buried dealing with basic survival issues, I can’t imagine this not being a major topic of conversation.
I hope they put in the changes needed to right the ship. Plex has a lot of potential!
It’s just so short sighted. We pay for virgin TV, because my partners eyes just roll over when I try to explain watching in progress recording from the start doesn’t work on Plex, or other work-arounds that keep being needed for the most basic features.
The basics need to be rock solid. I would much rather give that money to Plex than Virgin for TV. If they are serious about wanting to expand the company they need there product to appeal not just to developers like me, but to a wider audience.
I’ve already said it’s something we’re actively looking into, but it’s certainly not being buried. I’ve spent the last week in hospital, so it just hasn’t been my focus at the moment
Sorry to hear you been in hospital, hope you are restored to full health soon…and not only so you can fix this issue, that has already dragged on far too long
So while I agree that Plex has had issues with QA, I can honestly see why. I’ve been watching this thread quietly just to know when this mild annoyance (no, my life is not ruined, I just have to wait to watch a TV show) has a fix out. The amount of pressure with users looking for updates on this issue and the constant reminders on how annoyed everyone are I believe direct contributors to Plex devs and testers trying their best but rushing to get fixes out.
For anyone that can’t live with this, I suggest side loading the last good version, which appears to be from Feb 2021.
And to plex employees I say, thank you for your efforts and attention to this. I will wait patiently until you believe you have a good fix to roll out.
The Android devs really need to step up their game. How about fixing the item not found bug too that’s been going on forever instead of tweaking the design of the EPG… which is also… BROKE. I dunno who made the decision to release an EPG that is slower than a snail while scrolling but you made a bad decision.
NOT the latest version. I just updated to try and solve another problem and my live TV doesnt work anymore. I will pull some logs and try to roll back when I get home later. I advise if you EVER find a stable version. KEEP it.
I have never had any luck with the Plex app on either iOS or Android when watching a recording while it’s being recorded.
Now, I usually use Kodi when I’m watching on my Nvidia Shield box, or with BS Player Pro on Android. My old iPad mini 3 is now too slow to do anything.
Depending on the app, you will need to set it up so it show hidden folders, as the “.grab” folder may not be visible.
You may also have to stop watching and resume a few times, depending on how much you watch, and how much you fast forward, but at the very least, NOT using the Plex app would give you a better watching experiencing than with using it.
The latest update broke my live TV on Synology box as well, HD Home run app working so knew it was nothing tuner related. Had to manually stop and restart the app to get TV functionality back.
It’s with sadness that last weekend I switched to the Plex fork that is Emby, it’s not as polished asthetically as Plex but functionality wise it works.
