Hi,
I have an HDHomerun that I use with Plex. I’ve set up several DVR recordings and they work fine every time. When I go to watch a program, it times out. All the channels work fine on the HDHomerun app. Is there a buffer setting or something that I’m missing?
It works fine with the client that came with the HDHomerun hardware but, does not work with Plex live tv. It times-out in Plex but, plays all channels with the HDHomerun software.
I have a similar issue. The DVR records the show, but live TV freezes. Plex server: 1.8.4.4249
Freezing is happening on both my android phone and web client. My live TV is working without freezes using the HDHomeRun client.
I spent hours on my PMS, HDHomerun and multiple endpoints today. Suffice to say, it appears to me that Plex Live TV is transcoding everything.
My PMS is an older QNAP with an intel processor. It is capable of transcoding but when transcoding an MPEG2 stream the cpu is through the roof (live or from a recorded show).
Since I have the HDHomerun Extend, I have also tried selecting the highest quality setting which is passed to the QNAP in h264 (instead of none which would be the native MPEG2 stream). With it set to highest, watching recorded shows most of my endpoints are happy as it streams direct for video. If I try Live TV it shows it is transcoding the h264 to h264 and send the cpu through the roof again. This would seem to be a bug of some type to me since the endpoint being transcoded to for the live stream is the same endpoint that streams direct when it was recorded and then played.
I don’t have the ability to do Live TV with the MPEG2 stream unless the endpoint can do it direct as I can’t transcode it with my PMS.
I can use the HDHomerun app on my endpoints (Android, iOS, Fire TV stick) all without any transcoding on the Extend.
What are your endpoints? Many can’t handle the ts container for h264 natively but were happy to do mkv containers. It is probably remixing the feed for your devices.
What client devices Apple TV. Fire TV Roku? Those are the devices that determine if transcoding is needed by the server based on their capabilities. Some don’t like ts streams.
I access it directly from the server using PlexWeb; the media center is connected to the TV via HDMI. I do get the same results from PlexWeb remote and Plex Android
